Heard from a director that we will most likely be notified before the week of November 10 to WFH. So, no one will be in office and the layoffs will happen over a phone call. Curious if anyone has heard the same info?

In the old days of 100% office I’ve seen people call fictitious cupcake birthday party meetings last minute and whoever doesn’t receive an invite gets escorted out in the background while everyone else is occupied.
Employees should all drive to the office and hang out by the building to get their calls. Then that mo--n at the top can see what he is actually doing to people. What a pompous je-k this guy is.
This might be true. My organization in SP1 was told to change our meetings to be remote that week.
@ay heard same will happen in Midland so I imagine it'll be this way everywhere we have a large concentrated presence.
I wonder if there will be heightened security or even a police presence.

@bw Agree...there will be desperation. Some people will lose everything. If you think that some may resort to violence, then backstabbing to make others look bad is an easy leap.
They are going to rank field people by their ability to use AI.

It is simple to assure the return of company equipment. If you don’t return the laptop you do not get your severance pay or other benefits. As far as paper reports and books not checked out from central files and the library it is the honors system. When you sign papers for severance you agree to return everything.
How would they ensure all company issued laptops would be returned?
Management is doing the right thing by having people stay home when layoffs are announced. The worst case scenario is to have hundreds or thousands of people mad as he-l and capable of doing things that are destructive or violent. You would have to beef up security too. One incident could cost the company millions.
@bt there is an EOI, yes. Those people find put at the same time non-voluntary find out. People are upset and can say what they will but this isn't a knee-je-k reaction to low pil prices. This has been explained numerous times and was announced to employees an entire year ago.
Are they at least having a VSP to entice older employees on the verge of retirement to leave. This whole thing is lay-off does not seem to be planned well and looks like a knee je-k reaction to the balance sheet. It could be anything. Perhaps a huge impairment charge due to low oil prices. It could be anything.
@az we worked from home successfully for a long time without needing paper files, etc. But anyway, I doubt much work will be getting done by anyone that week. The company already knows this.
@a4 yeah that's not how that works. Your access would be cut off if you decided to not answer and secondly, you're getting paid that day to be available and answer the phome if needed. That's one way to raise your hand I guess.

@ay I’m not sure whether it’s just Houston or all locations. Houston has a lot more to process than other locations so it could go either way at other locations. My recommendation is to start cleaning your laptop of any personal stuff, take personal things home now through the next few weeks, and then you’re prepared on Nov 10th regardless of what happens. Even if it happens in the office at your location, you probably don’t want to be walking down the hall with a box of your things for all to see. Where’s the dignity in that? For those that are told to WFH, the typical process is to mail you a pre-labeled box that you can use to ship your laptop and any other company property back to the company. There’s obviously no cost to you because the box is already labeled for prepaid shipping by the company. Everyone agrees that this whole thing is a difficult process, and for some a devastating one. Everyone I’ve spoken to is stressed out and very uncomfortable with what’s coming. Nonetheless, everyone will get through it one way or another. Life will go on and those who lose their jobs (unwillingly) will find new opportunities to begin the next chapter of their lives. Life does not end with one’s job. Remember that getting laid off in this round isn’t necessarily a reflection of your performance or value. This is such a large layoff that many good people that perform well will be dismissed. But, life will go on and those that are laid off will find the next opportunity in the next chapter of their lives.
Wow. They won’t even let you collect any personal items. I guess they will box them all up for you to retrieve at a later date. Make sure you bring plenty of electronic information, company books, reports, and files for you to work from home the week before layoffs. This whole thing is terrible.

Yes, they are going to have everyone work from home the week of Nov 10. That decision has been made although it obviously hasn’t been announced yet. There are too many layoffs for it to be done in person. Also, their WFH approach is the more humane one because most employees do not want to walk out of the building feeling humiliated and emotional. Even if it had been done in person, you would not be allowed to “say goodbye to colleagues”. Typically, security escorts you out of the building immediately after your meeting with HR and your supervisor. Also considered was the safety issue associated with large numbers of very emotional and upset individuals driving home after receiving the news. There would be an elevated risk of automobile accidents. This will be the company’s largest layoff in its history, and the majority of layoffs will be in Houston. Both of those points have already been publicly stated. By the way, you can refuse to answer your phone or check your email, but that won’t save you. You’ll still be laid off on that day and all access will be removed. Your badge won’t even work, so you may as well accept it and answer the phone and/or open the email. Ultimately, the company made the correct decision to have people WFH that week, because it’s the safest, most efficient, and most humane way to get through this difficult process.

Seems very unlikely. All id have to do to delay being laid off is not answer the phone. And if they're actually going to treat people with a shred of dignity, they need to give them the opportunity to say goodbye to colleagues and collect their personal items.
