Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

The axe has fallen on Infosec today.

The axe has fallen—today marks a devastating blow to Infosec. It’s frustrating that leadership never fully understood the value of what they acquired, and through corporate missteps, let it unravel. We had so much untapped potential, but that vision was never realized. To all the incredible talent affected today: it was an honor to work alongside you. Unfortunately, Cengage has shown a stunning lack of foresight.

@bm

Gale is beyond sc--wed. They will never ever offload it. I know for a fact that Universities are taking a gargantuan axe to databases after losing federal funding. Harvard and Yale are at the top.

“Headwinds” and “underpinned”. Two amazing Cengagian Leadership colloquialism.

Here is what I would ask.

  • Who did this deal?
  • Is your stuff already out of your office?”

Cengage is where companies go to die. I seriously don’t understand why they bother to acquire anything anymore, as all they do after they get a functioning company is sabotage the strategies and people who made the company appealing to begin with until it’s rendered useless to the market.

Can’t blame the company owners for cashing in but I feel for the unwitting employees.

@fe Are you serious? Have you looked at the performance of the InfoSec business? The ship sank a long time ago, no one seemed to acknowledge that they were already under water. I'm glad someone above finally saw how bad thing were and are doing a reset.

The entire Infosec engineering team was also laid off and outsourced to a vendor. That's about 15 people.

@OP I don't understand why Cengage is even pretending to keep Infosec open after this. With this deep of a cut, Infosec is a rapidly sinking ship.

“It’s hard to know exactly where this nets out overtime but in the next few years, we expect that this will reduce our total corporate workforce as we get efficiency gains from using AI extensively across the company.” whatever that means?

TM aka Mr I'm Always Sick was finally walked out! Maybe someone higher up at Cengage actually wants sellers to SELL?

Brutal eliminations. Just like Cengage Academic. CA still hasn't recovered from the blow.

Greetings,

Yes, the irresponsible attacks on higher education by Trump's regime, which is run by the shadow president, (f)Elon, is destroying the markets.

@bj "significant headwinds in the federal market" ... "navigating a period of rapid change and uncertainty in the Government sector" ...
Honestly I take it to mean that cuts enacted by Trump and/or Elon Musk directly affected contracts with Infosec.

@b4 Which channel? Definitely wasn't #all-company or #general. I tried searching but came up empty.

I just verified this on a Slack channel by searching for infosec. Look for the post from an hour ago.
