Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Toxic Citi Culture

I don’t remember exactly where, but I saw a comment about Citi being a toxic place to work, followed by a request for clarification. I don't recall the OP ever following up, but as a software engineer who’s been at Citi for some time now, I have my own thoughts. Maybe it’s just my specific bubble in CISO, but here’s my take:

  1. Non-existent inter-team communication. It’s like a collection of medieval castles: no one talks to anyone on the outside unless you hold a certain title. God forbid you’re a peasant. The Indian hierarchy and culture only aggravate this further; if you want anything done or even answered, you're forced to escalate immediately.

  2. Terrible product quality. I honestly don’t understand how people with such abysmal coding, problem-solving, and process-building skills get hired anywhere, let alone at a bank.

  3. Leadership with a heavy stench of narcissism. Don’t even get me started on Tim Ryan. He’s single-handedly decided that along with his title, he inherited a flock. Now every Thursday, he delivers a sermon on how to live, think, and behave --- even dictating which tools to use for work he doesn't understand in the slightest. Oh yeah, I sh-t you not, he also travels worldwide to Citi branches with his "Roadshow."

If you’ve been laid off, it’s a blow, but please understand: in the long term, you are better off. It’s a toxic, ugly environment for any software person. Your skills won't just stall there --- they will die. And they'll do so quickly.

@dt

I would also take a picture of the Seat Thieves and email the picture to HR and Head of HR SW.

Since Sh!ttybank wants to enforce and monitor RTO even on a hybrid schedule, FVCK hurting people's feelings.

You need to politely but firmly tell the Seat Thieves you booked/reserved THAT SEAT on the Citi Booking App and can prove it, and for them to please find a new Seat !

Why should YOU MISS Zoom Meetings and work abd be Inconvienced because MotherFvckers are too Lazy or Entitled to reserve their OWN Seats ???!!!

I myself was booted out out of a seat when I didn't know about the Booking App months ago.

Then what's the use and purpose of the Booking App if MotherFvckers are permitted to Steal Seats???!!!

Sh!ttybank may as well revert back to FCFS First Come First Serve !

If the above problem persists I would email everyone up the food chain up to the Head of HR !

Because I'm NOT getting in trouble for missing Zoom meetings and work because of other people's Laziness and Entitlement !

The Seat Thieves similar to Airplane Seat Thieves are betting on and using the awkwardness of the situation and guilt trip you into Not kicking them out of their Stolen Seats!

@b9

This book seating app is very counterproductive. You book, you need to check-in in the morning like it’s an airline, or u lose it, then u get to the office and someone is already seated or worse it’s not working… and then if it’s not working u try to book again using that app where it’s so hard to find seats due to small images you have to keep on scrolling…and then u missed that zoom meeting you’re trying to catch!

@b3 whatever money was invested into the seat booking app was a waste of money, why push for this other than to further monitor in office attendance

first come first serve makes the most sense unless they find a way to temporarily lock the seat to your employee id, or better yet assign us a seat permanently, otherwise you're expected to ask the person to leave but that can cause unwanted tension to divide us further

Just want to add to the culture BS, they started some seat booking thing at our place, well I booked and guess what, damn people were already seated there without booking. I go to the app and rebook 2 more times spaces showing unbooked - get there, someone is already there. I go to a whole area showing unbooked - area packed. Idk what that means for Citi culture, but even things like this don’t work.

Curious - was your work more front office facing or back office facing?
