Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

How to get layed off?

I survived another round of layoffs and am not happy about it. Any tips or tricks for how to get let go? I quiet quit back in 2022 and have been doing less than half the amount of work that I did previously. I am constantly in the bottom 3 on my team performance wise. I just want my famn severance package already!

Have you tried asking to be put on the next list? I know a few people near retirement who have successfully done this.

@ex Honestly my manger is a stand up guy, best boss I have ever had. It's this company and its byzantine processes & policies that are making me want a wfr package.

Give a very bad review about your leadership and the company in general in TellDell: it’s supposed to be anonymous but… who knows!

If your manager is not nice, you can fight against it. Make ur boss in trouble. Team will appreciate your efforts.

@b3 Dell pays me 1/3 what I am worth so they get 1/3 my effort.

Has anyone ever been outright fired? The closest I can remember is a contractor, who always dressed like she was going to or coming from a night club, was told not to come back.

But I don’t ever recall someone being outright told “You’re fired.”

Funnily enough, doing nothing seems to be the saving grace for many these days.

People that actually get things done (i.e. higher grades, higher salaries, more tenure) are the first ones to go and the ones that are barely doing anything are kept just because the managers that are left can't lose any headcount.

Completely un-ironically, you should probably have tried to do more to increase your chances of getting the severance.

When you get laid off, technically the company is saying that your position is no longer necessary—not that YOU are no longer necessary. Therefore, they do not get backfill. If they accepted your offer to get laid off, they would lose that headcount. If they feel they are bad at your job, then they have to go through the PIP process to let you go and preserve the headcount. That’s work for your manager and you won’t get severance.

I recently retired from a small revenue generating team. Before leaving, I actually offered to trade positions with someone who did similar work but not in a revenue generating role - the cash would have been a nice buffer. But my request was refused. When I retired they filled my role with someone else (a friend of a manager?). The person on the other team was let go.

So, volunteering to be let go is not always effective.

Being a middle-aged white guy who is competent at his job is a sure-fire way to jump to the top of the list!

You can speak to your manager and volunteer for the next round. That’s probably a better decision than getting fired for poor performance.

You must be related to someone in management. Those with nepotistic ties can't get fired if they wanted to.
