Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How true is the rumor about the package for NREs?

I have been hearing a lot about a possible early retirement for nres. This is along with reductions in the workforce at the end of the year. I was ranked nsi this year and have not been given any dpc plan yet. I believe they are going to offer me the early retirement . It makes sense because then I would not have to go through the bs and could just leave. I have made it clear that I would be willing to leave at 55. This only gets me 2 years but it is worth it.

Glad you have the "Courage of Conviction" to stay. WAEM. These are the classic gaslighting, bullying, and defamation narcisstic tactics used by management to get you to quit.

Keep detailed notes on your DPC plan and if you work in Texas, record all verbal conversations. Texas is a one-way state in that you only need your permission to tape a call or a face-to-face meeting.

I got the same offer from my supervisor. I can't believe they would ask that. It was dpc or quit. I asked what would I gain by quitting with only a few years left. I was told if I was so unhappy at exxon then I should leave. I laughed at this crazy offer. They are really trying to get rid of people. No way I am leaving until I am RE. F uc them.

Yes i got my dpc plan today as well. No early release from this sheet hole. I only have another year to go. It's funny because the tool of a manager asked me what I wanted to do. I said what are my choices. They replied either the dpc or leave . I rkkd them why the he-l would i leave with just one year to go. They replied well it might be better for me because I did not like it at exxon anymore. I reminded the a hole I would lose several hundred thousand dollars and medical coverage if I left before 55. I told them this was grounds fir a lawsuit because they were trying to get rid of me before I could retire. They replied it was my choice and exxon was not trying to get rid of me. The plan was to make me a more competitive employee and that is what the company was trying to do. I will play their game for the next year and will decide if i want to continue after I am RE. These people are really amoral and evil. Be careful once you turn 50.

Ok I got my dpc plan on friday. So no NRE payoff for me. I asked my stupidvisor about the rumor of nres getting time added to their pension and they said no way. They said "exxon would rather improve the employee and get valuable work from them for the next few years, the purpose of the dpc and pip plans is not to terminate employees but to reform and improve them so they can be productive members of exxon's workforce" I was then told all everyone wants is for me to try and improve. They said hr and the stupidvisor were my advocates for improvement and will help in anyway possible. It was all a crock of s heet and read off an exxon document like a script. O Well I will play their little game for two more years. I was warned that if I did not participate I could be let go and if I did not improve enough further action could be taken. It was all a f ing bluff because I don't know of any employee being fired during NRE age. PIP ing yes by let go firing no way. They are really putting the sc--ws to me and want me out.

@q1 don’t hold your breath. HR has been cut to the bone like every other group and is likely swamped. There’s a tight timeline for RE PIP paperwork, not so much for DPC plans. Chill and be glad you’re not RE or young and taking the pip option.

I just like the others who are nre have not gotten a dpc plan yet. I asked and the manager said they were working on it. HR is a joke and no help. Others who are RE and piped already started the pip. I wonder if they are going to offer the deal. It only gets me a year and a few months but it is worth it to leave this place. I have never been treated so bad and disrespected by a supervisor and manager in my life. They know I want out and it may be the plan for me. I will let you know if I get it.

No packages for NREs. Business as usual, turn NRE, you're sc--wed but get to hang around. That's your reward.

They will not be paying people to leave. They already have a completely legal way of getting rid of folks for 3 months of salary which is practically free.

If they do offer a package, you can be assured the next announcement will be the elimination of the pension. If they offer a package it would be beneficial to take it.

@bs Near Retirement Eligible = NRE

When you are close to age 55 and retirement eligible they won’t put you in a PIP. There is an alternate process and you basically can’t be fired unless you violate policy and give them cause. I can’t remember inf MRE starts at 52 or 53.

You youngsters don't know how generous some of these incentive packages were before PIP/PIL started being used as the primary layoff tool. Some layoffs were voluntary, some were not. Some added years of service and age (I've heard of as many as 5 additional years of service and age, but typically it was 2-3). I was personally involved in an involuntary layoff in EMIT in 2004 where there was no added service or age but the payout was as high as 65 weeks for 31+ years of service.

Just take a look what UPS is doing!! $1800 for every year of service. $10k minimum. Everyone is cutting jobs. BP just announced 6200 layoffs.

Common sense says its no chance - why pay people to leave when they can make things unpleasant for free and force us out?

If it happens this year I will be retired by December. If not 2 more years of mailing it in till 55. It is exxon's choice.

When exxon did away with GREF and building management they offered some employees a few years to leave. Most only had one or two years till 55. I knew few of these employees personally so I know it happened. One guy was named Cruz and he now works for JLL as a contractor. So it can happen but will it?

Why would they compensate loyal employees when they can just have layoffs... Er.... I mean "fire low performers"? Spend a few pennies or betray 30 year employees and steal their souls? If you work at the company it should be obvious which they would pick. Sad how much things have changed.

@b3, in what context did this happen 20 years ago? Certainly not a general program. Was it related to people affected by a divestment?

I just can’t see it happening. Natural attrition is happening year round. When have they helped the commoners at this place?

Exxon did this back 20 years ago. I know employees that were given time to their retirement and retired early. One guy retired early and came back as a contractor. So it can be done. The main problem is if you can afford to retire early due to reduction in payout. I am sure there are some that will jump at the chance to leave.

Even if they wanted to, they can’t just give pension benefits early. The pension plan is federally regulated and the assets belong to the plan, not to the company. The company can’t just give additional benefits from the plan to NREs.

They could offer a cash incentive to REs as they did in 2020, but why would they do that if they already have the system in place to force unloved REs out by ranking them NSI.
