Thread regarding Walgreens layoffs

Bag check theory

This is a theory. They implemented this new bag check policy the same week that DM's emphasized on the weekly conference call how SM's have to be working 8-5 (no matter your store hours) while also emphasizing how they're tracking bags checks full force. I'm curious if the bag checks are actually being implemented to track what time the SM's are leaving their shifts. This would give corporate leadership the advantage to make ER easily give the OK to terminate SM's after the holiday to avoid severance for (theory) layoffs after R2R. Just a theory. What are your thoughts?

We want to know why we're off the clock for bag check and sometimes wait over 20 mins. to be checked out. This should be on their dime, not making us work off the clock.

Then why not do it for the customers....where 90 plus percent are stolen by.. Seriously why not them too then...they are the high risk thief's. Check employees all you want...but don't check the thieves that come in every day. Make sense to me.

@b1 Bag checks have been required store level company wide for at least 10 years now. Depends on the store as to whether the policy is enforced or not. But now, this policy is being strictly enforced through our handheld devices where we have to have a member of leadership scanning the team members badges. Then performing the checking of their bags. Leaders dont actually touch anything inside of the bags. Its just verifying that if there are any items purchaseable at walgreens, that there is a valid employee purchase sticker on them or a receipt.

@gw

You are right. The new bag check system does not inform anyone as to when an employee arrives for the day.

@ee When a Store manager get's checked they know when they leave? OK then how do they know when they come in....They could come in at anytime in the morning which a lot of them do NOT come in at 8 am. Maybe having to also check in when they arrive would be just as wise.

Store level has always had to perform a 'bag check.' When you leave for the day, a member of management meets you at the door, by the camera, and looks at your receipt for anything you may have bought that you are taking home. You also open up your backpack or lunch box.

However, now, Sycamore has it all set up on the handheld zebra so you actually have to scan your badge to prove, on paper, that you did a bag check. Sycamore says if you don't do this, you may be fired.

So, OP is thinking that when a store manager gets a 'bag check' it will show what time they left for the day.

What are bag checks? I assume this is at store level. Please explain what new rule has been issued for store employees?
