Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Any truth to the rumors?

Is there any truth to the rumor that there is going to be a company wide pay cut? Seems unlikely... but I'm seeing it repeated here (and soon deleted from the forum, which is suspect)

Maybe in sales but, everyone else? Absolutely not lol. My BFF is in sales and his base/commision balance was fu---d with a few years ago.

@en If you get put on a PIP you are still expected to show up and do your job every day. If you choose to just not come in anymore then, they will just fire you - which is literally what a PIP is for anyways - but you won't get any type of severance. Or paychecks for that matter.

If you are put on a PIP, they are basically trying to force you to quit. Your job is 100x harder than it should be and are micromanaged like a mo-o. Instead of quitting, continue to go in, do whatever tf you want to do and make sure it's the absolute bare minimum. A paycheck is a paycheck so, make dell pay you out for doing a cr-p job. THey plan on firing you anyways so who tf cares at this point?

I was on a PIP years ago and I showed up, did the bare minimum, collected my checks and that was it. A week before I was to fail my PIP I quit. Applied for unemployment and received it.

They have already. SE’s comp is 30%
They have subdivided that so 70% is MBO based and the remained is based on a regional sales target. Targets have been increased to include the whole region and so are unachievable. My region has not met its target for years. The end result is that commission is capped and the days of making significant over achievement are gone.

Before we had account based targets and if we worked hard, there was good money to be made. That’s all on the past now.

I highly doubt it but nothing would surprise me at this point with this company

If I get put on a PIP then can I just take the time off and not bother showing up for work? So if it's three months then is that three months guaranteed pay? I am looking to maximize my pay for the next months but don't want to do any work.

Maybe a change to sales base/commission structure (that people call a pay cut) but no they are not going to tell you that you will make $10k less now as a salaried employee

@bk

It’s the same playbook they used with PS and PSP contracts, they change the terms and push lobbying to get it all deregulated. Look up what Microsoft is doing with Pentagon federal contracts, and you’ll get a glimpse of what Dell is aiming for. They’ve got a four-year window to pull it off before they get even a token slap on the wrist. Again people are not aware of what is going on in the company, i don't understand why.

If you’re in tech support, brace yourself for a PIP. They’re using remote sites to push this, and plenty of employees have already quit and more will follow. Some just can’t handle a PIP and will leave on their own. Honestly, I don’t care, I’ve been through worse stressful jobs, so a PIP doesn’t faze me at all. Give my package and then i will leave.
They’re planning to cut 20% of tech support jobs, and they’ll do it in the nastiest way possible. They will most likely target RDR as part of their cost-cutting strategy.

People need to come together and organize to stand up against these kinds of abuses.

How could this even be true about sales, 30% commission and 70% salary. We would barely even get paid, everyone would leave. That seems a little far reached.

@be targeting federal contracts how?

It’s definitely going away 100% but they’re keeping it low profile. Right now, they’re working on changing contract terms. Sure, they’ll run into trouble, but they don’t care anymore. Dell has a clear roadmap for what they want in 3 phases.

Phase 1 outsourcing and automating tech support is already complete.

Phase 2 targeting federal contracts,

Phase 3 is the closure of certain offices. We’ve just entered Phase 2.

I insist they don’t want the word getting out.

Not possible in Australian market, the only way Dell can possibly cut pay is by setting targets so ridiculous and not achievable that you don’t get paid any commission what so ever. So that’s that 40% of your package you are sc--wed.

Every single one, no exceptions. Their goal is to squeeze every penny they can while making your work life worse. Follow this principle: GIGO which stands for Garbage In, Garbage Out.

Hearing sales will move from 70% base 30% commission to 30% base and 70% commission. Not Good!

Nothing this company does to save a buck would surprise me, this sounds like a great way to get voluntary attrition also.

Most of us are already underpaid for where we live. Those that had to RTO already took a pay cut for commute and auto expenses. I’d say those who were Sr Dir’s, Dir’s who were impacted by the flattening will take cuts. Most were demoted in title by two levels. They can use that as a pay cut reasoning. If it’s company wide, that’s BS. Maybe stop spending stupid money on building renovations and having 500 people travel to every event.

I for sure know of an employee that was told their pay was being cut back to when they were hired.

No idea, but I do know it's legal to do in Texas. I've also noticed some posts being removed. Like does Dell own this site? Wtf

Not possible in many countries.

This is unlikely because many of us are already underpaid by a big margin vs market pay level. A paycut will accelerate the exodus of talented employees with big tenures who are already behind on pay. Those who have options in this economy have those options because they're good at what they do!
