Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Stop pointing fingers at WFH people

They work just like everyone else—some less, some more. Some slack off, others put in the effort. It's the same as in the office. We’re not the problem with each other; leadership is the problem for all of us.

WFH permits Intel to hire from any where in the world and at prevailing market rates. I like this flexible model

There is a reason we have fses and vendors d-mbasses.

No, engineers should be in the fab turning wrenches !

Brilliant, since intel makes custom chips, shouldn't we be making the equipment also ?

Opens a hamburger business.

Oh, how do I get my beef ? Why don't you start with raising a cow first ?

Cows needs grass. Why don't we start with growing grass first ?

Grass needs good top soil! Ooh, I am going to get into the top soil business.!

See how absurd this infinite regression of expertise and self reliance is ? Inability to appreciate expertise and having self sufficient independent business layers is the problem, not wfh.

Fab engineers definitely need to be trained more on equipment. But that has nothing to do with wfh or wfo.

@b0 Is right. Enough ! Just fire them and be done with this whole back and forth. This topic needs to end in 2025 permanently.

@ct is the same TD engineer who thought he was smart with the “chefs” analogy

Guaranteed he works 2 hours a day and thinks he keeps the company running

Start confronting slackers publicly.

Ask what people what they have been doing in meetings, challenge their poor work, point out when they aren't really online. It might just save your job. Make sure your facts are right first but point it out. Have facts to support your claims. It just might save your job. Management clearly isn't weeding out the low performers so help them out .

Ask management to reinstate 360 reviews. They are actually very helpful when done right. I've gotten promotions and better projects based on them. Although, it is a lot more work for FLMs so expect push back.

Again, a lot of techs chiming in here clearly.

As an engineer, let me ask you this: do you give a sh-t about anything in the fab once your shift is over? Do you even look at pages or emails after your shift?

Do you need to attend passdown 7 days a week (if you are oncall?)

Do you get paid hourly? Do you know that salaried folks take time off to pick up their kids and then log back in after 10 PM to finish up emails?

Speaking of oncalls - do you know that engineers consistently have their weekends ruined and get a measly 1-day comp day for 12-hour shifts sometimes on weekends?

Do you attend meetings at 7 AM or 7 PM because that's when the VF reps are awake or vendor in Japan needs updates?

STFU. All these wrench monkeys showing up at 7 30 AM wearing a bunny suit think that they run the whole darn fab. You turn wrenches. I respect that, but after your shift is over, you go home. Anything more, you need overtime etc. etc.

Salaried? At this shithole? It's the worst gig ever. WFH is the only redeeming quality about this company.

Do people abuse it? Sure. Do techs take 4-hour lunch breaks and play with their phones in the fab, logging into facebook, youtube, etc. while sitting in chairs waiting for their shift to be done? Sure, they do as well.

There are bad eggs everywhere. God save this company. I am not the one to point fingers at others.

I retired from intel long ago, but still know lots of folks working there. I see few of them now and then at local costco ,Fred Meyer and even Ross.

May be they are on vacation.

May be WFH.

They don’t actually work at home. They don’t know how their tools work. They can’t come up with meaningful DOEs or summarize data for data turns in a meaningful timeframe.

All these add up and put us further and further behind. We will never catch up without WFO. TD engineers hiding behind Teams and working 2 hours a day isn’t going to cut it

Just fire all WFH and be done with it. End this never ending tension and debate once and for all

Don't have a problem with people working from home if they can effectively do their job from home.

I do however have a problem with people who can't do their work from home and expect us folks on site to "help them out". Lots of engineers sitting in their PJs, dialling into pointless meeting after pointless meeting then asking techs to commission their equipment for them. The only time they show up is when there someone important visiting or if there's free food. I'd be mortified if I were them.

I feel like it’s harder to collaborate with WFH
But on the flip side easier to not have nuisance coworkers disrupting you in thr zone

@aa+1jh8fyzhz "A lot of people work hard and long hours when WFH."

Your definition of "a lot" seems generous to me. From my experience most people tend to slack off more when WFH than when WFO, judging by how long they are online and how fast they respond.

I am surprised that none of the trolls have posted about how bad H1Bs are when they WFH... That would be a good combination to get a rise out of people on this site.

It is a job and the employers gets to define what and how things need to be done. If they want everyone in the office that is their decision. They have a history of making far worse decisions. You still get paid twice a month and in this environment that means a lot.

A lot of people work hard and long hours when WFH.

Getting all people to the toxic office environment ... it will further slow down productivity. It will spread the toxic polution quicker to everyone.

Intel is not politicians to sit in one room to mouth fight. Why Intel engineers can not work independently at home and make it productive? Why some people can not work and must meet with others?
