@g7 they don’t care. Across the board don’t care that: there is nowhere for pts to go, that we are creating healthcare deserts, practices that have been in communities for decades 30 days… gone

@aj first thing in the morning, from what I have seen in the 2 decades I have been here.

@ab WARN has nothing to do with severance. Severance is not a set 6 weeks, it is based on job grade and years of service.

I will never forget August of 23- I walked in our building per usual to start my day, seen our 2 directors already there with 2 other people I never seen in our front meeting room. I walked into my office department located in the back of building, and was told "congratulations you made it" by a few coworkers who started even earlier then me. HR had our 2 directors in building/business, (A Optum subsidiary) literally pulling people in that front meeting room as they walked in, they were not allowed to get anything from there desks nor lockers- it was awful. I had been there exactly 1 year, while others had 5, 10, 15 years in- I felt so guilty. You just never know, that was the last big layoff for Optum/Uhg.

@az Thank you both for responding I really appreciate it. We’ll see what happens on Friday and I’ll let everybody know if something happens on this site and let them know what to expect.

@aj when I was lad off a few years ago I just got a ping from my boss’s boss asking to join a call with her and my boss, and they told me there. I don’t think there’s a specific structure to it across the board

@aj they either send an invite the night before around 7pm or the morning of around 8:15am

@OP I know this was asked before and my apologies for asking again, but does anyone know if you get the invite does it come first thing in the morning or do they let you work all day and then send you an invite?

@a7 managers don’t deliver layoffs nor do they have talking points

@ab They probably should rip off the bandaid and do a massive layoff and pay people their 6 weeks but this company is not run in ethical or above-water manners. Every UHG-level CEO here has left under the cloud of impropriety or actual SEC/DOJ investigation.

@a8
Is the only reason not to trigger WARN is to avoid paying the additional 6 weeks salary? What of the 80/20 offshore target for IT? Is there a cost benefit of whittling the staff down more slowly?

Layoffs will be better than the annual reviews. You’re gonna need a 5 to get 1% in merit this year

I don't see 25% of the organization being let go between Friday and 2 weeks. Even if they try this WARN game people talk about (focusing on remote staff and small layoffs across locations) the reality is many many Optum employees work at clinics/hospitals/service centers or the HQ (thousands at both UHC and UHG/Optum campuses). It is not possible they get 20-25% which is 65,000-80,000 workers without triggering a WARN somewhere.

Both can be true: they can avoid WARN doing strategic layoffs, and they cannot lay off 25% of the entire company using this model successfully for every single state.

100% happening on Friday. Managers are in meetings today and tomorrow to get their talking points.

What departments/divisions? 20% across the board seems extreme!

I have heard 25% of the workforce. Some will be let go Friday, some will have 2 weeks.
