Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Internal opportunities after CMP'd

I was affected by the recent CMP layoff and have until Dec 15 to secure a new role within the company. I applied for a couple of positions already. What are my chances of getting an interview or being hired since I was part of the layoff?

@vn I think OP is stating that his manager put him in a CMP, which is usually reserved for wafer processing, so that seems kinda harsh.

I don't believe OP is a CMP (copper metal polisher)

what internal opportunities though? workday is plastered with intern and contract positions. GBs are treated like outcasts and frankly it's better to contract at team red if you are contracting anyway.

Only internal opening positions right now are toilet cleaning, fab cleaning, floor cleaning, trash cleaning, cafeteria cleaning. No opening jobs for managers, technicians or engineers since we trashed them all to make a cleaner Intel.

if you are not a troll and you are on the foundry side you might be able to move to an AT location

If you are willing to relocate--you may have a better chance at an internal position. Your resume SHOULD be considered before any outside applicants. Keep all of your options open though. Best of luck to you during this difficult time.

All Intel cafe's are now hiring. You do not have to worry about food inflation.

@ay you go find a new job in this market. Everyone is either laying off or at best holding their staffing at current levels. There are always a few job categories where people can find work but there aren't many of those. Stop being an a$$hole to people who are struggling.

@bn is the package better or worse than the previous package?

If you’re an H1B they will save you, if not you’re F’d.

@bn What is different about package?

I was CPM’d with the last day of 12/15 as well. I was also told I can apply for any open positions. The package is different than the earlier CPM packages as well.

Low chance of internal movement, the managers often mark candidates that are CPM’d. If you can network you might get a break otherwise I would be looking elsewhere. I wish you the best

So does this mean Intel is no longer laying people off? When were you actually notified you were affected by the CPM (layoff)? Allowing you the opportunity to apply for another role within the company by Dec 15 is considered redeployment… the rest of us who were affected by the CPM were not given this opportunity, it was simply, “your last day of employment with Intel is X-X.”

@ad If there is an open position, I'd be asking that hiring manager for an informational interview.

That is a great way to let them know you exist and what you have to offer, while seeking to get more details on the role and the hiring manager.

Even better if you know someone in that group, who can put a good work in. Let them know you are interested and ask if they can pass your name along to the hiring manager.

In this environment, relying on simply applying for a role is unlikely to be sufficient. Many of the other applicants will be doing what I've described.

You own your career.

Low chance unless you know the hiring manager.

Not enough to simply apply.

This is a situation where networking pays off.
