Thread regarding Optum layoffs

RTO Enforcement and Expectations

Does anyone know how this RTO mandate will be enforced for hybrid employees in the Twin Cities/DC? Some team members have pre-arranged trips this summer where they were planning to work remotely and now are afraid they have to cancel their trips because of the badge swipes correlation to your performance.

Additionally, what is supposed to happen if someone is home with sick kids, a winter snowstorm, house maintenance/repairs, car troubles? All of those are real life scenarios where in the past we had the flexibility and ability to work remotely. There are rumors flying people are banking badge swipes to maintain averages in preparation for times like that - this all just seems so insane and is causing so many inequities on teams that are comprised of telecommuters and then hybrid employees held to different performance standards based on RTO.

people who i work with who work at home abuse it like heck. i see people gone for hours away on their teams and nothing is done about it. Meanwhile phones are ringing deadlines are coming and they can skip work and still collect the same paycheck as me.

@a5 you do realize that many, many employees of this company have never had, nor do they live remotely close to, a UHG office, right? In my region they got rid of the only offices we had that we maybe went to twice a year.

The rise of the gym badge bros at Optum in EP is noticeable. Get your scan, some cardio on the machines, and go home before 8-9.

I am guessing they start having badge ins on the elevator banks or to leave the building. There is absolutely no way everyone is in 4 days a week at their cube

I'm a TC and have been for all 17 years here and that's not changing for me. I've always had an office address too. Not sure that has much to do with the RTO.

@ay

Looks like office addresses are showing up for all telecommuters under the Sparq app

Everyone has their closest office listed in their Sparq profile.

I thought RTO was implemented on 07/07? I’m also wondering how people are doing it. I know some team members in hybrid in MN, they all are pretty quite about this, so I’m not sure if they do it.

Wait, WTF.... you're taking preplanned trips and calling it working? I work in the office and i don't get to do that, what makes you so special? Take your PTO like I have to do. You people are the entire entitled problem. Get out if you can't commit. It's time for battle and you're more worried about your preplanned time off.

Hey can I work from Disneyland like the rest of you too since they have wifi?

No wonder the stock crashed.

While the bootlickers down below may have some semblance of a point, OP is right in pointing out the lack of consideration this company tends to give towards metrics. Just because someone has to spend more time getting their car fixed because they're forced to commute for half an hour to an office where they spend all day talking on Teams to their Indian coworkers, doesn't make them less productive than the Minnesotan within walking distance to an office.

But leadership is too corporate brained and is unable to apply nuance to metrics. You will get dinged for 'performance' if you're below average on their report card.

Maybe have a working car and do maintenance when required, get a babysitter like the rest of us, stop being a little whiny sh-t. I bet no one even likes you.

All those “what if’s” and sick kids can happen when you were onsite so you don’t have an argument. You just want convenience for you. Your job is not a babysitter nor an excuse for any of those things.
