As far as tech unions go, they are for the most part only good for generating jobs for the families of union bosses. Those pinky-ringed thugs who’ve never written a line of code or solved a customer issues just su-k up dues and make promises.

Unless you have a job that requires onsite work (deployment or assembly) they can move your job elsewhere. And the onsite people can be protected by the IBEW or CWoA,

With Sudhir gone, we are all irrelevant. No chance this place thrives. It will be death by 1000 cuts

“ You must be a very low level contributor to work in ISG and not know Sudhir. ”

"You must be ego tripping right there! Of course, I don’t know him personally and never met. Did you??"

Yes. I worked both with him and for him. Sr. Director. Unless you are am I5/I6, I find it impossible that one could work in ISG and not know the executives in charge at least by name.

@b2+1jx0eqeq3 - Educate yourself before you post.

While tech unions are relatively new compared to other industries, a growing number of tech jobs are being unionized. This includes roles like software developers, QA testers, and even those in digital media. Examples of unionized tech companies include Alphabet (Google), NPR, and Pitchfork.
Here's a more detailed look at the situation:

Increasing Interest:
Workers in tech companies like Apple, Facebook, and Amazon are showing increasing interest in organizing for better pay, working conditions, and rights.

Examples of Unionization:

Alphabet Workers Union (Google): This union represents employees at Google and is part of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 1400.

Pitchfork Union: This union represents employees at Pitchfork Media.
Democracy Workers (NewsGuild-CWA): This union represents workers at Democracy Works.
Kickstarter United: This union represents workers at Kickstarter.
New York Times Tech Guild: This union represents tech department employees at The New York Times.

Impact of Unionization:
Unions can play a role in negotiating fair wages, benefits, and working conditions, as well as addressing issues like AI implementation and its impact on jobs.
New York City:
IT and tech workers in New York City, particularly those in trade shops, are often unionized.
Challenges and Considerations:
Some argue that unionization in tech may not always be beneficial for all developers due to potential concerns about seniority-based pay and promotions, according to a discussion on Hacker News.

John Roese is a clueless “yes man”. Sudhir ran circles around this clown. Word has it that John Roese was intimidated by Sudhir. Probably why they cut him loose.

@df jeez, dude/dudette, even though this platform is anonymous, please stop embarrassing yourself.

Take a break, try to relax, I know this place is making us all mad but you need to take better care of yourself!

Insulting each other is not doing any good to anyone so therefore I’m out. Peace!

How clueless can you be to work in an organization and not know who is the CTO of the organization???

"putting 3rd party SW on HW and calling it an innovative solution?"

This is what Dell has turned ISG into, not what it was before Dell took over and not what It was meant to be IMHO.

@at He’s talking about ACP for Azure or OpenShift. The product that largely flopped lol. Now we are onto the next wave of “disaggregated architecture” for Dell Private Cloud. We rebrand every six months. It’s insane and exhausting and so non-strategic.

@ay Unions? What tech industry has unions? You are essentially equating yourself to an Amazon warehouse worker. This proves how many people are lazy and su-king Dell’s teet.

Please just hand me my little package, sprinkle some PTO on it, and release me into the wild. I’m ready to run barefoot through a field, never attend another stand-up again, and finally remember what it’s like to breathe. Let me go. I’m not fighting it. I’ll even bring cupcakes to my own exit interview.

@ax core SA ISG here. Cut the DPS/UDS AEs first. They are the definition of overpaid and underused. Still don’t understand how they are around. Oh wait, I know… politics at the top. The amount of Directors reporting to directors reporting to VPs in those orgs are INSANE.

That said, I believe there is truth in what you are saying about speciality presales going away. We already went to that shared SE model with SPS and the sky didn’t fall. That said, so much would rather have dedicated SPS SE instead of UDS/DPS

There is some truth in this. Specialty Presales, for example, will be slashed (UDS/DPS PS). They're largely jobs filled by entitled, overpaid chops who get paid too much and never have time to help us lowly sales folk. So, cheerio!

“ Ok those Sushi posts are getting old… I work in ISG but I have no idea who he is so every post about him is really irrelevant”

You must be a very low level contributor to work in ISG and not know Sudhir. He was Sr VP of FoIT and then CTO for ISG. He was the strategic cog in the ISG machine. Who else could have mad a career out of putting 3rd party SW on HW and calling it an innovative solution? Think about it, shipping servers pre-loaded with Azure or RedHat. Genius!!

They told us - engineers: expect new ways, new teams, new managers.. So what are we going to do?

ugh we don't know.. but no changes until end of July.

I expect my product to be hit hard this year, because everything is behind, heads already rolling and management act like headless chickens running shouting nonsense.

I just want to do engineering work, but instead I fight to get something meaningful to do. I wonder if all storage products are so messy inside like we are :/

Says who? This is still Dell’s largest profit margin center. Sure, storage is down against their fake market targets… but we are still bringing in more money than folks slinging GPU/laptops at cost.
