Maybe HR is getting an variation of the referral bonus program. Instead of getting a bonus for bringing in talent they get a bonus for each head they can dismiss with no severance and no unemployment.

@ax is probably right, if you are supposed to be in your office working and aren't you could be the next person out the door with no severance and no unemployment benefits... fired for not being at work. All future layoffs are going to be done on a very small budget.

RTO has been a policy for a year? Two? They’re getting annoyed that folks aren’t adhering to it, and assigned seating in one way to justifiably start putting the clamps on harder.

They did this for my org a year ago and I’m in the Chandler offices. I wouldn’t look much into it as any clear indication of anything they haven’t already been pushing for years.
