The Gaslighting is real

We are rapidly grinding our way to end of Q2. It's mid-year, month-end, at all the rest. Managers are sitting on names of people that will be let go by the close of June. They are quiet. They ignore the elephant in the room? They play this off with a BAU attitude pushing through the month.

How can they not mention anything? We get on team call where management offers nothing in terms of team and location strategy updates. I feel bad for them. They have been put into the horrible position of saving their own skins at the expense of decent team members. How can we remote team members plan our futures while management leads us along withholding critical information about our jobs? This is immoral and unethical. I don't begrudge the bank for making strategic location and efficiency cuts. I DO hold them in contempt for how they are going about it.

Remote team members are being gaslit. We are treated unethically and immorally. Is a 30 day notice before a layoff really that much to ask!? Some will say it mitigates risk. Look! If someone is given 30 days advanced notice to their layoff and decide to sabotage the bank they are FIRED on the spot. They forfeit any and all severance. They face possible penalties. No package. YOU'RE FIRED! There is your risk mitigation. Do they really think that low of us!?

No. There is something more sinister going on here.

@gz Trust me, many trying to exit this mess on their own terms. But current down economy, RIFed federal workers added to the already unemployed, and tariff wars driven by the Orange guy and Co. do not help as the newly displaced join others.

Companies can't plan or commit for new job creation. People close to retirement age don't have the confidence to leave now and still have a decent retirement nestegg. If the economy were better I betcha theire would be more voluntary exits.

So glad I waited to get displaced. 60 day non-working employment and 48 weeks severance pay. Such a toxic place, things are much better away from that place. And I have enjoyed my year vacation and new employment doing something much better in a far greater environment. I don’t know why anybody works for this cr-p company now.

Recommendation: if you have not already or have not recently, get on a call with your manager. Review a couple of work items, and then ask if they know anything about the remaining longevity of your role. While smart managers will not put it in writing, many of those will tell you what they know. Mine did and I know other employees got info on the current status...which can change...at any time...

As someone who was remote, yes you know it’s coming, but not every area or managerial staff would tell you when it was coming which it made it stressful for everyone. I know this applies to everyone though and not just remote or location strategy. For those that got word before the actual layoff day consider yourselves fortunate in this climate.

We so sure about that? “Buy more business” typically means mergers and acquisitions. Mergers and acquisitions create redundancies. More of the employees from the acquired company typically get the sack, but some from the acquiring company will too, and either way it means a net of less jobs available in the industry as a whole.

Not to mention, once the asset cap is gone and the regulatory monkey is off our backs, I wouldn’t be surprised if they immediately go hard at cutting down risk and control functions down to a skeleton crew. And that’s a lot of jobs here.

No offense, but isn’t everyone given 60 day notice before they’re laid off? That’s literally what the “notice period” is, and most people in it get the benefit that they don’t even have to work while they get to be a WFC employee for 60 more days.

Executive mindset from Charlie and HY has always been "remote work gets cut first." And any "Location strategy" is just pretext for lay-offs.

I am a manager who is not in a core location. I’m on a displacement list too. I don’t know when my last day is coming either. I’m working 16 hour days to cover for the people on my team that I’ve had to displace, not of my choosing. Please don’t bucket all managers together.

Wells has always had a “go big or go home” attitude when it comes to unethical and immoral behavior. You can define on your own.
My point being, if Wells was a mu-----r, it would NEVER EVER want a ‘manslaughter’ charge - it is swinging for the fences on 1st degree mu---r.
They push and push and push and push - all the while folks are scared, whispering to one another ‘is this even legal?’, and are forced to live under constant duress.
They will capitulate - they always do. Particularly now during a ‘deregulatory’ environment. No one is holding them back; they have mowed down all their well qualified, very experienced, top-notch performers, straight across the bank. Watch. It may take a while, but Wells will go through another ‘2016’ crises. Just wait for it.

you should plan for and love your life as if you will be laid off on the coming months. hold off on any unnecessary PTO, contribute to 401k as much as you can, start saving as much as you can, and most importantly start looking for another job. While it would be nice to time things just right where you start a new job right as your 60 day period ends, it's a tough job market right now and may take many months. Also recognize that finding another remote job is getting harder and harder so don't limit yourself.

What are you hoping to get… a notice that you will get notice about an upcoming notice telling you when you’ll get your official notice?

I get that that the limbo is problematic and yet you’ve had the advantage of quarters of heads-up more than other remotes who got sunset.remotes long-since
