Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Enjoy your last day WFH

Get your afternoon nap in, walk your dog, grocery shopping, netflix, dropping off the baby to day care. No more of that starting Tuesday coz you going to be dead tired by the time you get back home with all that driving and listening to the coworkers

@ea Bingo! They take from you, then we give them less. More they take, the less we work. Its really just simple math.

I might be dragged in against my will for now. I will not be energized, engaged, or interested in anything important to Intel. I will not be a good coworker or teammate. I will withhold, obfuscate, misdirect, propagate confusion, and just be unpleasant to deal with. I will deliberately seek out ways to waste and misuse company resources.

But physical presence is more important than anything else, huh?

@pc
Funny, my experience has been the other way around.
Many of the people I work with, who WFH, are offline or away more then online.
These are the same people, that when they do come in, are the watercooler jockeys.

There are all kinds on all sides. Fact is this is a directive from management and that is not going to change for now. Stressing over it will only put folks into an early grave. So, choice to be made - accept it or quit.

In my experience, all lazy fu--s advocate for the office and shame others, but it's all projection. They are the ones who hang around, do nothing all day, chat in the cafeteria for hours, come interrupt you for random stuff, go to the gym, etc. Those who want to stay home are hard working self managing individuals that just need clear goals, deliverables and deadlines, and do not need daddy to watch over them 24/7. However, they get shamed by the lazy fu--s who hate their homes and their families and fundamentally are dedicated to lick boots and take merit for someone else's work. The shame is on you, RTO advocates.

@ka

Don't bother with HR; they'll just give you a line from the books.

Your manager is trying to save your a-s by having you come in and not get yourself on the next list to be chopped.

my manager has asked me to come in 4 days starting next week after telling me all this while I could continue to WFH. I was hired as fully remote. As a single Dad I am now planning to ask HR if I can get a few more months to plan and manage my kids and their school. Has anyone else gone through this and if yes can you please share the outcome ?

I like going to work. I like seeing people. And hearing stuff. WFH is nice but lonely.

@a4 How did you know my plan? Now I have to adjust from 9:30 to 3:15. Thanks. 😠

I can get my nap in an conference room or even in my cube with headphones on - no one checks.
I can do all my shopping online - no one checks
I can stream Netflix in the background - no one checks.

Anywhere but Arizona, I can keep my pup at work and take him for walks as I see fit - no one cares.

The whole idea that I will be more productive in the office is utter bullsh-t from a fear mongering control freak.

As for daycare - All of mine are long gone prior to covid and we managed to make it work when we didn't have WFH luxuries.

I am most worried about not able to spend my daily dose of 1 hour on this site trying to incite folks and thinking of ways to create false narratives to cause panic :)

It will be nice to only work 40 hours. No more early mornings or late nights. The commute will be worth reducing my weekly work schedule in half.

I would bet that they want people to try and game the new policy with the methods described in some of these posts. The head counts isn't down to 75k yet so they will be glad to fire people for cause and not have to pay severance. You will be doing everyone a favor when you chronically show up late and leave early or are just a general pain in the a$$ while in the office. No one is important to this company and that includes you.

I can imagine how people will come in around 10am lunch at 12 to 1 and leave at 3pm to "avoid traffic"

Yep. It’s a great win for people who can once again justify their existence by going into the office a doing nothing all day.
