Executive leadership could have made a significant difference with Cisco - when you look at Google, Microsoft, NVIDA, etc they have very smart technical CEOs and have been able communicate and lead their companies into new key technology trends - unlike Cisco which always seemed to be caught flat footed over the last 15 years. Having a CEO that has weak technical aptitude has been one of our Achilles heel for way too long… so many missteps… so many lost opportunities…. it’s just embarrassing and has cost us dearly over the years…..

@e4 shouldn't you be working on the next-gen chip today? You work the 996 schedule, right?
@e4 Old white guy bored out of his mind.
@at you are right. I’ve not seen their org “chat” but have seen their org “chart” because I now work for one those. There are Patels at NVIDIA but no “Patel Gods”. In true Disco style, you know nothing about being informed. I sometimes still come here out of idle curiosity to see if some folks at Cisco are still as ignorant as ever. Thanks for not disappointing me.
@dy Twitter shed 80% of its engineers and that's turning out better than expected
@d4 we could cut deeper with no impact - fire 30%. 10% don't even show up. 10% are technically weak for the AI transition. 10% have been here too long, stuck in their ways, and are not innovative thinkers.
@df like Steve Jobs? SMH
@c9 it doesn’t matter whether the technical company is hw or sw focused - if you have a ceo that has limited technical expertise your being led my someone that can’t see the future new markets in either areas because they are running the company flying blind.
@d4: I’d highly doubt people in engineering would be “energized” 😆
The reality is we could cut engineering by 20%, force team to use AI and we would fare better on delivery. In turn, the reduced headcount will reflect a higher stock price and teams are more efficient and energized. There are many examples of this happening at companies we all know today.
A lot of leaders in security and few other areas lacked the real depth and knowledge of security.
Cisxo is still no1 in routing, switching, wireless and many other areas. They do have good leaders in many area.
Too C level are also responsible for Cisco decisions. We need good EVP and VP with good vision and planning.
only one of those companies used for comparison matters - Nvidia
Google and Microsoft are software companies
Nvidia is a hardware company that also does software and is good at it
Cisco is a hardware company that attempted to get into software and failed miserably at it
Instead of becoming Nvidia, Cisco will become IBM....nothing more than a corporate shell that connects American money to large pools of Indian labor
@as clearly you have not seen their org chat. You are misinformed
Google, MS, NVIDIA etc don’t have Patel Gods at every echelon - that’s the difference. Once a company gets Patelised and/or Italianised, that is the end of the company. Seen this at Juniper, seeing this at Cisco .
@a3 long known fact in the AI industry: AI = Actually Indians
Most of the engineers at these companies work 60+ hours a week. I doubt we get half of that effort. That's the difference:
@a2 Sam altman
we are opening our first office in india later this year! and i'm looking forward to visiting next month.
ai adoption in india has been amazing to watch--chatgpt users grew 4x in the past year--and we are excited to invest much more in india!
Those companies have a much larger pool of H1s and that’s how they are separating from other stagnant tech companies.
