Thread regarding SAS Institute layoffs

Today is layoff day at SAS

So far at least 7 people I know in one subgroup that rolls up to the marketing division. All individual contributors. No idea if they were paid out according to the standard severance agreement. Job elimination was given as the reason.

What have you heard?

Bonuses announced next week, I wonder if they’ll be any more layoffs before then?

@cs that made less sense than the art comments themselves.

Perhaps they were laid off to counter the “Art Department, which is safe” comments.

A bunch of ICs in digital marketing were laid off, mostly US based and one in Mexico.

“We’ve eliminated your positions today!” (because Daddy’s little girl doesn’t like you).

@as I have no idea why they were laid off but saying it is because “we” aren’t modern enough to use AI anyway is a ridiculous generalisation. Speak for yourself.

Plenty of us are modern and keep up. It is on you to learn not some company to learn for you.

I doubt the graphic designers were laid of because of AI. SAS is such a dinosaur when it comes to using the latest and greatest anything. I doubt AI vs human employees will ever reach us. Can't teach an old dog new tricks (which is also part of the downfall).

"The Art Department and JMP are still safe."

JMP continues to have double-digit growth year over year and respectable Revenue per Employee numbers. Why wouldn't it be "safe"?

Not all of the graphic designers were laid off. Just some. Does anyone know if they were paid out according to the standard severance agreement?

According to the other thread, some were graphic designers replaced by AI.

Were they all?
