Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

The culture at the moment is really toxic, fear, negativity and hate

There's no nice way to put it. People are upset. There's a lot of hate for favoritism, nepotism, and even a racist culture going on. Maybe it's built-up tension from all the layoffs going wrong; going wrong, I mean management saving their family and pets, but letting go good engineers.

I feel myself needing to watch my back and also becoming more pessimistic. This culture really came to light after returning back to the office and the atmosphere is toxic.

@ks Many of us are crying, cause the work environment is very bad. Toxic as in negativity, hate and back stabbing culture within. There was always a toxic separation between contract employees and full-time employees, but it's everyone for themselves.

jm is not crying alone.

@OP HR and management are doing layoffs all wrong. My team has people leaving every so often, and we have to take on the extra work. It's caused by the continual layoffs. Just get it over with and get down to 75k; maybe go for 65k and get it done with.

I have no faith that what I'm doing will contribute to the company's turnaround, as we start something and then pull the plug. Rinse and repeat. I'm here now to collect a paycheck and ride it out until I can find another job.

It's become a completely hostile work environment, and more than half of us don't want to be part of it anymore. The job market is bad; maybe open up the volunteer option again and allow everyone that signs up to leave in peace.

Nepotism! You hit the nail on the head. With the old stagnant management team spending all their time gaming the system to save friends & family during cuts. I know my upper manager has family members working in other teams, and none have been cut.

@HR Don't bother with adding more online training in an attempt to boost morale. Many of us wear a fake smile in the office, but we are really mentally challenged by what's going on.

@c5
I suspect you have been living at home ordering nothing but GrubHub and Instacart since 2020 and you are so inundated with your own BO that you have become sensitized. I suggest you buck up and quit complaining. Better yet take a trip to the coast breath in the salt air and ocean smells or do some diving or fishing or surfing. In other words there are all kinds of new worldly smells when you unzip from your bubble.

@b2 Crystal clear which "country" you hail from. I don't need to state the "country", do I?

@b2 That’s enough Bull Sh-t to fertilize my garden. Been at intel for a long time and in this industry. Never heard racist statements. Always worked in a very diverse group. In fact what I observed is the opposite. A lot of quote minority managers only hiring there race. So f u and the horse you ride in on.

Interesting. I saw the same spike in anger and finger pointing on the Qualcomm layoff site during their extended multiple-layoff period. This is capitalism. Your survival instincts are constantly being triggered, because profit matters more than you do.

The main problem with the culture these days is so many people forgot basic hygiene over the last few years. Can't tell you how many just awful, foul, reeking people I've encountered since RTO started. You would think phds would know how to take a shower

would you like a cookie
intel needs strong independent entities with integrity
not a bunch of politicians pretending to be engineers

One thing I will never be is a su-k-up to in office culture. The fact that someone like you, who does 100%, thinks I'm an a--hole means I'm for sure on the right track.

So how do we fix it? How do we build a culture of trust? I have heard “tell them what you’re going to do, then do it” — a start perhaps?

Racists working at Intel were mad that it was harder to abuse black and brown people through Teams to do all the work from them and take all the credit because all their racism is tracked and recorded. Now with RTO, racists are now celebrating that they can intimidate and abuse black and brown people the old fashioned way by getting in their cubicle and breathing over their shoulder while demanding they work overtime for free.

it only flares up when I have to encounter sychophants like you. sorry not sorry if the truths are painful for you.

thanks anyway for the insight - worth no more than I paid for it.

@ag no, you and people like you are the problem. Other people are doing well in their jobs and you immediately resort to calling them derogatory names. You should do some self reflection and figure out why you are so miserable in your life. It probably goes far beyond your work life.

"The culture at the moment is really toxic, fear, negativity and hate"

I worked at Intel for a while, over thirty years ago, and even then the culture was really toxic - so much fear, negativity, and hate. Managers were always looking for a reason to fire you, co-workers were back-stabbing each other left and right, and there was the annual "ranking and rating" blood-letting to contend with. Sounds like business as usual.

My team is thriving, firing on all cylinders, but we’ve always been in person. Perhaps remote work doesn’t lead to good culture, it’s only now you’re on site you can see it.
