Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

It's going to be rough

So let's do the math 3,500 IT employees minus those ringed fenced - already in low cost areas, new graduates and apprentices, crisis management people and from what is left 1100 will leave. On the surface it looks like 30% but it might actually be 50. It's going to be rough.

If this is how it’s going to play out, buckle up.

My god I can't believe those numbers. I went through about 7 of these when I worked there but that's the most aggressive I've seen.

We just went through the exact same thing at Shell. It was indeed carnage and the workload is crazy. More cuts for us is the rumor in 2025 because there are too many US people.

Shell and BP must use the same McKinsey consultants.

Good luck. I hope there is a severance package. Take it and don’t look back.

Obviously biggest impact will be on those who lose their jobs but even for those that remain it will be carnage; Taking on the workload of those who have gone whilst knowing that the next load of offshoring will only be a year or two down the line. It's a shame as this used to be a great place to work. Now brought low by incompetent LT.

Don’t forget about the 3,000 contractors in addition to the 2,000 that were already let go. With the comment of “the work’s not going anywhere”… that’s right it’s not because no one is going to be around to do it, with 6,100 fewer people.

@as+1jhmz4qn5 the street beggars are probably more competent, and wouldn't harrass the female staff. Street beggars will have better strategy than GC, but without the designer wardrobe.

Let's do the math: 12 useless board members (including 1 useless CEO), 8 other useless people on LT can be replaced with 3 street beggars in Pune and some AI to save how many millions of pounds a year?

~3200 staff in scope from countries excluding India/malaysia/hungary.

~2500 staff in scope from the UK and US

I would expect most cuts to be from the UK and US (rather than Spain, Poland etc) due to cost reasons. So roughly 40% cut from UK/US

still don't think the in-scope numbers have been made clear. Will most of the 1,100 come from digital folks based in US/UK? What's the population of digital US & UK?

It's going it be a third. 3200 are in scope, 1100 have to leave. Still rough. Source: Emeka

I was surprised at the numbers. I didn’t think it would be that much
