Thread regarding 2U Inc. layoffs

PLEASE 2U ask for volunteers for layoffs or offer early retirement package

We all know this is going happen soon. I ask and hope that 2U first ask for volunteers for the layoff. The advantage to Thais is that they will be less likely to be faced with various types of employee litigation if they take volunteers. Sure they've got legal releases that people sign to get their severance packages but those aren't always bullet-proof. Volunteers make it all much easier for everyone.

Still wondering how to volunteer without officially doing it as to affect unemployment benefits. The stress at this company is too much. I just can’t up a quit.

Do not volunteer to quit or resign. Just take it like a human being and get fired. They will contest your UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS if you file and have no other income or job lined up. They did that to a friend of mine way back then. Just enjoy your 26 weeks of Unemployment Benefits and work very hard to get another job and quickly.

Not sure why the person who said to be careful volunteering is getting down voted, they're right:

"Voluntarily leaving your job may impact your eligibility to collect unemployment benefits from the U.S. Department of Labor. Check with your state's unemployment insurance program to determine whether you qualify for federal assistance or if your severance payment affects your standing."

BEFORE YOU VOLUNTEER: look up unemployment in your state or region. In some places if you volunteered for a layoff, even if it was going to be a mass layoff in which you may have been impacted anyway, you may forfeit the ability to get unemployment once your severance payout is complete.

You can heavily imply that you'd be OK with it, but do not volunteer until you know for certain that you'll be OK on the other end.

According to the site it is nine open jobs in SA vs eight open jobs in the US. This myth looks busted.

On the website, most if not all open roles are for SA based candidates only. Read between the lines.

Seriously? Volunteer layoffs shows indecisiveness and weakness to shareholders? !!! I think that ship has sailed.

Sadly, 2u will not do this. Leadership has an ego, and when a business asks for layoff volunteers, it shows indecisiveness and weakness to shareholders. They will conduct large, sweeping cuts, likely starting with Bootcamp ACs. I would not be shocked if they are outsourcing these positions. ACs and SSAs on the degree side are no safer.
