For those who got the layoff news: how did it come? Was it a sudden calendar invite for a one-on-one, or an email, or something else? Trying to know what to watch for.

With the current and anticipated volume of layoffs, do not be surprised if someone other than your direct manager gives you the news of being laid off. It's not personal, it's just logistics... even though that is a garbage way to go. God bless!
@d9 sorry to hear this. Can you provide any of the answers you were given to those questions?
@d9 Very sorry to hear you were let go. I thought they usually gave people some time. But you are saying to get any personal files off your laptop now as you may not have access?
I received a calendar invite with subject line stated "Check in" at 11:30am
Then when I login, there were only me and my director in the call. She then asked me how I was doing then asked me how my training was going and the status of my work. Then three minutes later in the call, she said there will be another person joining this call.
Then I heard someone connecting to the conference line and I checked the name. Name of that person was not from my dept. I then looked for the profile and realized he was from HR.
One minute passed and suddenly my director said "We have a very bad news to tell you....and she continued stating company was making strategic move and have decided to cut costs in the department and as a result my position has been discontinued...and she continues to read a script....
After 3-more minutes of script reading, she asked me whether I have any questions.
I said yes and asked her
- When my official last day?
- Whether I would receive any severance pay?
3 When my benefits end - What the company will state in reference checks?
- Am I eligible to re-apply?
- Will the company offer assistance re-aligning me to another position within the company and how soon?
HR Personnel who joined the call answered my questions.
My supervisor then reiterate that it was a company decision to discontinue my position over cost cutting and no individual was involved in making the decision. Then she said good luck with your future and call ended.
Whole call lasted only 14 minutes.
Then I received a pop-p message in my work PC stating your login credentials have been deleted and within 30-seconds I was kicked out of the system.
Carrier pigeon or a direct mind meld.
@ar my DPR through COVP were laid off, so not for sure who would be in the call with me.
You won’t get the invite until right before it happens. There will be an HR person in there along with your boss
You would see an invite with the subject something like "Business Update".
