Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I don't mind layoffs

If the new CEO decides to actually get rid of the real fat, and we all know there’s plenty of it here, that’ll be one move I’ll applaud. You know exactly who I’m talking about, the unnecessary layers of management, the slackers who do nothing but stay protected because they’re tight with someone a few levels up, and so on.

Spot on @ar. Band 6 people managers do the work of an IC with the added, generally pain in the tail people managing responsibility. Plus making the same money as a commiserate band 6 IC. Possibly the most difficult and thankless job in corporate.

@kk completely disagree. The ADs keep this company going. The ADs know what it means to be and IC, know better than anyone how to manage between B5+ and where the real work is done at the IC level, and know how to budget to satisfy both sides of the fence. The ADs are what keeps this company petering along in the face of massive headwinds. Without them this company would truly be garbage.

The real issue is that associate directors above NEVER leave. If the Titanic is headed for the iceberg, changing out the midshipmen to keep carrying out the order to stay on course isn't going to change the outcome. The best way to change the culture and the direction is to rotate out the officers.

Can everything not be about DEI? How about focus on Nepotism. No one is there because of being a woman and ethnic that isn’t already qualified. Meaning if you qualify with merit then there is nothing wrong with you being something not male or Caucasian. However we need to eliminate all these people here that are family members or friends of employees.

Sadly, to make a dent, working bees will be trimmed too. If 6% is the target, There just aren’t enough SVPs/VP/ED/SD/ADs management to trim.

@ap you think an individual contributor manager can effectively manage the performance and the work of a team of 12 people? You're crazy. That would be nothing but a copy/paste job and pi---d off employees because the manager would have no time to manage correctly.

Agree but wont’t happen. 67 yr old CEO is short tetm and as such will take fastest way to cut 6,000 jobs. Should be DEI, Director, AVP… but will jammer Call Centers, 1st, 2nd leveks, field techs.

Fact new CEO is a Board member and Hans still
On Board.. no changes in culture and $35 stock price after 3Q earnings call

Agreed. There are teams without a Sr. Mgr but there's an AD or a Sr. Mgr with less than a dozen reports. There are multiple SVPs as well. A lot of positions can be trimmed besides always trimming the worker bees, IJS.
