Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

That's all she wrote for me (literally)

The SVP of our department has drawn up the org-chart that they're expecting to stand up in September and she's deemed I will be surplus to requirements. My work across the past 3 years involved confidential work with MA and HL just to name a couple. I do question the thought gone into this considering they're letting people go that are still knee-deep in confidential projects that won't get announced till late 2026/early 2027. I now wait to find out the terms of redundancy and the date they'll boot me out of the door...

In a similar position but have found external opportunity. No regret at all after getting stuck for promotion. Let the countdown begin.

If I had a penny for the number of times I've seen people laid off only to be back in the office the following Monday as a contractor.

USA is trying to steal millions if jobs round the world with tariff war. Hope BP sacks all in US. Shame the US intervened in WW2.

Sorry to hear but MA and HL and their special projects will likely be gone by 2026

Those confidential projects aren't going to happen probably. MA and HL may be out the door as well after the GM in a few weeks.

I am sorry to hear you have been made redundant (hope that role hasnt moved to hungary or india). I am fully convinced this company has zero planning when it comes to people/hr. KD at her best...Suggest to consider this an opportunity instead of a disappointment

that may be the way it works in the US @ar+1jqv7a70n

in the UK we have been waiting for these redundancies since middle of last year and won't know our outcomes until June.

tbh I don't know if I'd prefer the last minute approach you describe, or the interminable wait we're enduring here

That su-ks, but at least you've been given 5 months of advanced notice.
Some people don't get any at all...just dumped on a last minute scheduled 15 minute 1:1 call with one's manager, where they sneak the HR person in on the call unannounced.

Best of luck, get something new, soon.
You can do it, and it'll probably be a better situation for you all around.

Finance is a brutal place. You’re best off out of the company.
