The best you'll get for an In-Seat Promotion at $hitibank are a program called Citi Applause where coworkers waste more time by filling in a "Thank You" note to You on an internal Citi Website when this can be simply done by sending you an Email.
We all know we can buy Food and pay for mortgages/rent with Citi Applause "Thank You's". NOT !!! $hitibank can shove it !
And despite what the Townhall meetings say, $hitibank reduced its Citi Gratitude Gift Card distribution (very few employees receive the Gratitude Gift Cards and the $$ amounts are Dog$hit Peanuts anyway ($10, etc.) just like $hitibank reduced its other Benefits (pension, medical, etc.), Even Lower Salaries and Lower Bonuses. If $hitibank can find a way to go Negative, Below Zero, it would have already done so years ago and reduced Salaries, Bonuses etc. to Negative Infinity !!!
What other Logical Explanation can there be for an Employer to nickel and dime its Employees and Blood Svck every Fvcken Penny out of them other than the fact that $hitibank is financially unstable and a penurious mendicant on its way to Bankruptcy ???!!!
There's an email going around "Unlock Your Potential April is Career Development Month". I've attended more than enough Citi "Career Growth" meetings in the past, before 2024. It's become SOS=Same Old Sh!t. I stopped going to those time-wasting BullSh!t meetings.
There's No "Career Growth" when Citi's maximum is at most 20% will get In-Seat Promotions every year. Stated another way, this means 80% (up to 100%) of employees will be rejected for In-Seat Promotions every year regardless even if they Rated 1s/2s.
There are thousands of posters on this Forum and other Internet Sites who said they were Rated 1s/2s. who got rejected for In-Seat Promotions and/or received Zero or Joke Salary increases or Bonuses.
As many posters have opined on this Forum, you can complete your work/projects to 100% perfection, work above and beyond the call of duty, get Rated 1s/2s, but you Still have an 80% to 100% chance of getting rejected for In-Seat promotions, Zero or Low Salary increases or Bonuses.
The Citi juice is NOT worth the squeeze. Save your work, efforts, knowledge and skills for a Real Bank or Employer who's willing and able to pay for them. NOT Citi. Citi nickels and dimes its employees Not just with Low Salaries and Bonuses (also recently reduced pension/401k benefits, medical insurance, etc.) because Citi is financially and operationally unstable and teetering on insolvency, bankruptcy and failure.
This time next year, 2026, the Regulators and the Fed will be drafting plans to sell Citi in whole or pieces to waiting Vultures, JPMorgan Chase, GS, BofA, etc.. Citi is a Dystopian Potemkin Village H3LL Hole. Employees need to give up, plan and execute their Exit Strategies Now !

The bottleneck or Glass Ceiling starts at VP/SVP in Citi. There's a glut of VPs (and a few SVPs) who've basically been Re-Leveled (whether or not they realize it) since they're stagnating at the VP Level for 3, 5, 10, 15, 20 years.
Title or Level stagnation is directly related to Lower or Low salary and bonus growth, including as low as zero percent.
The Citi VP Glass Ceiling is a well-known moniker or phrase in Citi.
This is a sneaky form of Re-Leveling, another way $hittybank is nickel and diming its employees as reported by the media and posters on this site.
If you've been a AVP, VP, SVP etc.for 3, 5, 10, 15 years, you've been Re-Leveled whether or not you realize it. Your career, salary and bonus growth have stagnated for years or decades.
The only way up is out of $hittybank. $hittybank is promoting in-seat only 1% of its employees which means there's a 99% or basically 100% chance of you getting rejected for an in-seat promotion.
You could have Rated 1s and 2s on your performance reviews, but thousands of those 1s/2s employees still got rejected for in-seat promotions.
$hittybank is counting and including the Svckers who applied for one-level up internal jobs, which means they quit their previous job and accepted a new one inside $hittybank.
The 8500 or 23,000 are deceptive and fictitious numbers because $hittybank is including the paltry 1% of people who got In-Seat Promotions and including it in the grand total.
Probably 99% of any hard numbers are transfers to a new one-level up internal job, Not In-Seat promotions.
And $hittybank permits Only One-Level up job transfers. For example, you can Not be SVP and then get hired internally for a MD job. Same with AVP, VP. The only way you can skip a level is by quitting $hittybank and get a job externally for 2-Levels up.
So if you're a SVP in $hittybank, you can get hired in JPMC as a MD. by Anonymous

Post ID: @2yq+1jh44ywm6 You can believe what you want. But $hitty guy is right. I used to work there at both firms.
Also, you don't see former GS and JP people refuting 70%+ on this site.
In any case, it's well known that they promote in-seat at least at 50% if not higher, so that's still higher than Citi. The last time I checked 50% > 20%, and 50% > 1%.
$hittiGuy, JP and GS do NOT promote 70% of their people every year. How would that even be possible? Are they giving out participation trophies over there?
Post ID: @ce+1jh44ywm6 $hittybank stated several times in meetings, Townhalls etc. that only 20% of employees who are eligible for, up for or are seeking In-seat promotion will be promoted. That was in Citi's "normal" years.
Now the media reports only 1% will get In-seat promotions.
As another poster here said "Unless you are in sales In-seat promotions, says HR, are for changes in scope and not a reward for excellent performance….. so, excellent employees quit Citi."
And then $hittybank Still wonders why they can Not keep or attract high quality employees, the ones who can actually help fix $hittybank!
And the employees-Svckers who remain while they're actively Interviewing externally are doing the bare minimum work because why bother trying when employees have an 80% to 100% chance of getting rejected anyway!
I got three promotions for people in my team.
Unless you are in sales in-seat promotions, says HR, are for changes in scope and not a reward for excellent performance….. so, excellent people leave Citi.
Post ID: @ar+1jh44ywm6 The news said 2000 employees will get In-Seat Promotions in the year 2025 versus the normal 12,000 ! But that's 2000 out of 240,000 total employees!
And every year the 12,000 has been declining. So this means 5+ years ago more than 12,000 employees got In-Seat Promotions!
