Ford EVs are so behind in technology

Ford will introduce new EVs in 2027. The technology that Ford puts in these EV are all outdated. They are already being used in China since 2023. Ford is trying to benchmark what the Chinese EV implemented. This is embarrassing.

Back in 1996 when I was in 10th grade in high school. I didn't have much money when I turned 17 years old and needed a car to get to my job after school. I bought a rebuilt 1974 Pinto for $300 bucks that had rusted out sections on the lower quarter panels and two bald tires. I bought some Bondo and a couple cans of spray paint to fix the rust and picked up two used tires off another Pinto at the junk yard for $8 bucks. That car was a total chick magnet for me back then!

EV's are nonsense.
Ford needs to bring back the 1977 Pinto, offering it in one color only and start selling a lot of them.
The 1977 Pinto would be a simple car to build, just like it was in 1977. Ford should not update the 1977 Pinto design at all and stick with the Pinto's engine carburetor, no electronic ignition, no cruise control, no power steering, no power door locks, no manual windows, am/fm radios in the dash, no intermittent window wipers and no air-condition.

@g1 Maybe. Or maybe it’s just the nature of big organisms, slow to change, full of contradictions, but somehow still alive. Some of what looks like decay is just molting; some of what looks like strength is just inertia. Either way, the cycle keeps going, and everyone inside it has to decide whether they’re here to poison it or help it heal.

You can slap a 900v pack in a mule and call it innovation, but if the busbar delta runs 8C hot under load you’ve basically built a fire risk, not a car. The so called delay is just validation we test across fleet variance, not one hero prototype that looks good for a press demo. That extra time keeps inverter harmonics from cooking a harness at -10F in Minnesota. It’s not slow, it’s called building something that works.

As a senior engineer with no Ford Pension owed to me from a technical point of view I am very interested to see what this long awaited EV will be.
Aside from our overwrought PD process working in and out of the lab and vehicle has been the favorite part of my career.
The rest of our processes are absolute garbage.

I remember the no a--holes one from October 2022 where he had two buckets of employees… ex rich Silicon Valley a--holes with vested stocks and legacy ford employees. Guess which flavor he preferred? Look no further than the DPD failures in Palo alto.

Skunkworks sets a high bar of former Apple Cobblers who think they are on the bleeding edge. Truth be told they are 10 years behind China in features and cost. No way in he-l will they be able to beat China. Not even Smart Pink Bunny Slippers is innovative.

Well, let's have more Ford people work from home then to straighten this problem out. Because slack oops I mean work from homers state they are very, very, productive when working from home and can solve any problems because they can wear raggy clothes or their bunny slippers that helps them think better.

The problem with the EVs Ford tried to introduce in FNV4 was that they had too much technology built into them. It made even the “low cost” models ridiculously expensive. BYD and other Chinese manufacturers started out with very basic EVs and hit the low price point that would have sold like hotcakes in the US if we had let them. So I like the strategy of using older and cheaper tech for these cars.

Model E is an embarrassment. Doug Field has hired no one of significance. The Digital Product Design team was a cesspool of Amazon flunkies with nothing to offer besides high school politics. The amount of money they wasted to show off basic prototypes is insane.
