Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

Anyone have faith in department leadership in pleading the case to executives?

During a couple of these department specific office hours talks, apparently some of the department heads are pushing back a bit on the 5 day RTO (among other things).
Anyone think this is going to lead to anything?

@nf why, because of the truth you don’t like? You don’t understand that all of this happening is BECAUSE of freeloaders. Productivity is at all times low despite AI. How did you think this is gonna end? Now everyone is at risk. Freeloaders not only stole time from employers (oh yeah, this is not unique to Paramount) but also, how did someone just put it? Oh yeah, “the joy of life” from hard working people with good work ethic.

@ez I'm so sorry that the only social life you have is the fake friendships you have at the office, with people who don't give a good goddang about you. Maybe you should have chosen better life options instead of having a totally unfulfilled existence such that commuting is the only thing that gives you even a hint of joy. That doesn't mean you have to constantly steal other people's joy, though, bud.

I'm sorry but this is a stupid question. Why would someone save your neck when they're trying to save theirs?

So glad most of the people complaining about remote work will be gone soon. Maybe the rest of us can get something done, without having to arrange our day around your childcare and other non work related issues. You’re all gonna actually claim you’re putting in a full day from home? How come every time I call, you’re busy with something else?

When someone shows you their true colors, take them at face value and believe that's who they truly are. By sending the RTO phase1/phase2 email in the way he did, DE showed he's a crass, compassionless and totally out of touch. He doesn't see employees as human. Why assume he's all of sudden as if by magic do a 180 degree? Even If he wanted to change, personal change is not easy (though not impossible!) and doesn't take place overnight. Take orange id--t as an example. A lot of ppl didn't believe that's who he truly was in 2016, and look where we are now. Stop being so naive. If I were you I'd be looking and ready to leave as soon as I get my bonus in 2026, assuming DE will even honor the bonus at all.

A lot of leaders are getting buyouts; they are taking their fat severance checks and dancing away. Don't hold out hope they are going to plead your case. Some have already stopped doing any real work, they are checked out and off day drinking.

Office hour talks... Sounds nice. We've been on the complete dark since the announcement. Not a peep from HR or anyone above my manager.

@ah id--t, remote work has been around decades before Covid. It’s not a new concept. By observing your writing patterns, you’re the same person trolling the other posts as well. I bet you have no association whatsoever with P+ to even be here commenting. Get a life loser.

my team member has a medical issue - it's significant IMO
asked HR / she is fully remote hire
Phase 2 RTO
She was told after Phase 2 info she can likely apply for exception
but "few and far between" and would "open the company to class action litigation if RTO did not happen in the way it was presented "
don't know if other HR people here would answer that way ..
made me think not to hope for anything but five day RTO for Phase 2

@aq why stay home and pretend to do work when you can travel 3 hours to office to do that right?

It’s astonishing how many people are not aware that remote work existed before covid. Including at Viacom.

Yes, I believe 100% that streaming tech leadership is pushing back and making the case for remote and international work force. Because they understand that the success of the platform depends on it.

The crystal ball tells me, one of two things can happen.

First possibility: phase 2 is postponed allowing enough time for the combined workforce (RTO + remote workers) to complete the critical parts (ufc, cvg, etc) while transitioning the platform to different infrastructure (oci) as fast as they can, potentially involving a new team (orcl). During which period, people will be pushed to relocate and/or join the new team when it makes sense.

Second possibility: Top mgmt wouldn't budge w/ RTO initiative and the tech leadership realize that they are setup for failure and start to chart their own way out.

I truly believe the people who are vehemently against RTO are the ones who should be laid off or take the deal. Let the employees who put in the work stay with the company.

At the UK town hall last week, the new Head already confirmed they will all definitely be returning to a 5 day week in the new year. There was also no mention of Q3 2026, sounded like it will be happening in Q1 there.

The minute I get the RTO as part of phase 2, I'm as good as gone. In the mean time I'll be double dipping, then get my severance and hopefully my bonus, and make out like a bandit, and I suggest to everyone do the same too. DE set the tone about RTO for this company, I'm highly skeptical DE will budge.

I 100% believe leadership will make the case they can and I 100% believe they have little influence and nothing will change. Your managers managers manager probably does care about you and your concerns but ultimately I can’t think new co is focused on that.

My guess is department leadership are focused on only one thing in talks with Skydance folks: retaining their own job or negotiating a good exit package. If it’s the former that means they need a team under them. If the latter, you’re sc--wed.

If they’re telling you otherwise I guess they are just saying what you want to hear.
