Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Did you get downgraded in your review for this past year and is your skin color NOT white?

Did you get downgraded in your review this year and is your skin color NOT white? I got downgraded and my skin color is not white. Wondering if there is some type of discrimination going on due to disabling DEI.

here is the formula, old , lots of experience, good salary that is 3 strikes against you. It is all going offshore. Skin color not going to save you anymore if in the US you got your equity now enjoy

Actually, management was encouraged to raise the voices of minorities over others, so I highly doubt they are discriminating against those of color.

They are definitely not singling out darker skintones. Outsourcing and $$ are main cause. For example, the only people downgraded and laid off in our group were white males - not one was a darker colored person. They all had great peer reviews and were well-respected and were rated as 4s and 5s previously.

DEI is alive and well here. We just had a town hall last week and they did a section on it. But honestly I see no race discrimination except against whites, it’s been like that for a few years. They actively encourage managers (it was in our map goals) to hire diversity when we had the ability to fill reqs. HR filtered down the applicants and sent you a handful to ‘pick’ from.. and they weren’t white. Now you can’t even back fill, it goes offshore.

I'm a woman and I'm mixed race. Last year I got a does not meet and this year I got a meets. Not only am I mixed race but I'm married to someone who is Hispanic so my last name reflects that. I also got slightly more money than last year plus a bonus. Last year definitely no bonus.

White, female, over 40, went from a 4 to a 2. Worked my a-s off to be well ahead of the curve. Disappointed at my review, but can't say I'm surprised. The bigger the company, the worse the treatment.

So it seems like there might be a trend with older white employees getting lower ratings all of a sudden. Is there a way or process that we can challenge the ratings and lower bonus amounts based on apparent age factors?

I have a close friend who went from 4 to 2, on the fence yet if they quiet quit, loud quit or announce retirement. This person is white and works there a$$ off, solid 5 individual but you know nobody can be that rating unless you are offshore this year. Watch for those good old boy network promotions and while this is a slow moving train wreck it’s just another reason the strategy is failing.

The goal is to outsource overseas as much as possible, regardless of skin color. AI applications have no skin color, sick days, drama, etc so this company will continue to automate, layoff, offshore, etc.

You have zero power over any of this.
Therefore, your only “power” is to work somewhere else. When you realize this, you can put it all in perspective.

Life is too short and special. It’s on you to make your own decisions and if staying at this org floats your boat, cool. Else, leave like many of us have done, only to find a much better life.

I’m white. I went from a 5 (last 6 years ) to a 4 this year. Same exact verbiage in my review as last year. Human Capital was enforcing a “ratings distribution” at the pay grade level. I had no choice but to change several of my direct reports as well, who were all at the same pay grade. I wasn’t willing to give anyone a 2 rating as they didn’t deserve it. We also didn’t have much say in the merit and RRP distribution either. They made a lot of random changes after we submitted our distributions in the comp planner.

That was Obama years. We're so far past that, but seems like folks just can't let it go. I was downgraded from a 5 to a 4 and I am WHITE and I bust my a-s just as I did from day 1 (7,300+ days ago). STOP WITH THE RACE thing.

I would never discuss skin color but you brought it up. I have never been less than a 4 and I received a 3. Over performed and have great feedback. I was told it was to meet the bell curve. I’m white and a senior. One of my teammates, white as well was down rated due to the bell curve. Senior as well and I can attest, works well beyond most teammates abilities. Also a senior.
So color is not always a factor.

People understand that not everyone works in the same part of the company. Don’t be so quick to say that people are not treated differently because of their skin color. Just because in your bubble you think it doesn’t, check your privilege and shove it up your ar-e. I have heard and seen it towards Black Americans and Asian Americans in this company. I have also seen leadership take actions against leaders who have done so. They are no longer with the company. And while some people do try to use the race card marginalized groups will know/feel the difference before those who aren’t a part of one of the groups does. Most people making comments probably thought DEI only meant black people until you saw the myth being dismantled in the news lately. On the whole it was irresponsible of the OP to pose such a question here as everyone is being affected by what’s going on with the government as well as the Change Healthcare cyberattack costing the company billions of dollars. Also if the question offended you, ask yourself why because some of the responses have me giving you the side-eye.

I went from a 5 to a 3 this year- no change in my work habits or productivity and was told that I “exceeded expectations “ .. and I am Caucasian. Ratings have nothing to do with skin color.

To all the posters in here that think DEI is about skin color, you clearly don’t understand what the program is about.
Do you know it helps Disabled veterans and other marginalized groups who often get overlooked for employment?

DEi policies not only violate the text and spirit of our longstanding Federal civil-rights laws, they also undermine our national unity, as they deny, discredit, and undermine the traditional American values of hard work, excellence, and individual achievement in favor of an unlawful, corrosive, and pernicious identity-based spoils system. Hardworking Americans who deserve a shot at the American Dream should not be stigmatized, demeaned, or shut out of opportunities because of their race or s-x.

I agree..disabling DEI has nothing to do with skin color ..it’s about rejecting people who don’t have white ways of speaking , behaving , etc…..unless they get obedient to whites….then you are safe
