Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

This company ki-ls me

I got my NSI yesterday because I was told as a 28 I can’t compete with the managers in more visible and global roles.

Then my supervisor told me they really want me to take the PIP because they are desperate for my skill set and they have nobody who can backfill my role.

I wanted to tell her to shove it right then but figured I should be more professional than the company. What a crock.

@34w agreed. Everyone but the chosen few HiPos will be crushed. Get those resumes out, there is no future here.

@OP As the OP, proud to report I submitted my PIL today. I hope my supervisor chokes on it. If they truly valued my skills, I wouldn’t have been sc--wed over in the first place. Good luck to anyone still stuck at XOM. Your time is coming.

@ap as a European, genuinely curious if this is in the public discourse. Could trump go after outsourced technical work in the same way as tarifs?

@10d I accepted the PIP and I am in my 40’s years with over 5 years at Exxon but less than 10 years. My PIP is a joke. My PIP is some presentations to put together. The objectives of my PIP are extremely basic and could be carried out by a 10 year old. Nothing in my PIP will improve my performance or improve me for that matter. He-l my PIP objectives would not even improve a person who has never even attempted my job. Not sure of the point of my PIP but it is extremely easy objectives. If they are trying to get rid of me then why would they give me stuff so basic a caveman could do it?

Is anyone under 50 actually taking the PIP?

Can you get hired as a contractor if you get NSI and leave via PIL? If yes, is there a cool down period?

here's the trick, you can quit or take PIL and offer yourself as a contract that pays you 20% to 30% more, if there is indeed nobody else with that skillset. Even if it is some indian from BTC or malaysian from KLTC who can do it, we all know that you can do it way better than them.

Happened to me too. Same CL as manager.

Promoted to CL28 3 years ago and have steadily dropped in rank every year. Got a G this time around. My guess is next year will be NI. 28-29CL competition is not stacked in your favor if you are still individual contributor. Even as a supervisor or manager, unless you are being groomed/sponsored, you will get a VG at best.

I just got bumped to 28 this year. Didn't take a rank hit yet but I'm sure it would be coming as I'm technical. Matters less now though as I'm jumping ship pretty soon. Looking forward to being gone lol.

Happened to me, too. I took the PIL and never returned to the office. A VP called to “tell” me to come back as I was a highly valued resource.

Too late. Already listed my house. Realized everyone is replaceable, my mental health and dignity is worth far more than anything I could gain out of their twisted game.

As a CL 28 I was ranked against my manager. I got NSI and he got promoted.

This is the replacement of American's! You have an Indian or someone in a low cost country replacing you. They are already trained and running parallel to you. American Corporations have zero use or loyalty to American's! I hope this bites every Corporation doing this at some point soon or where will our young American's do in the future. Repulsive!!!

You are not alone. I got NSI at CL 28 as well with totally fabricated reasons. If you are technical with a high CL you are no longer wanted.

Just tell them to F-off and be done with it.
