Yet have no opportunities comparable where you are? I anticipate getting a part time job of some sorts at a tiny fraction of my ATT salary and trying to find anything remote. At 53 I just can't deplete my 401K and IRA to live and support family. Thought I hit it big with a WFH job with ATT in 2017 but things changed. Can't go from Omaha to Dallas or Atlanta and definitely not on my own dime. Anyone else think of doing it and living out of a van of sorts?

My guess is Omaha is an N1 so going to Dallas would bump your pay to an N3. You could try find a room to rent or extended stay hotel that would be covered by the pay bump and make it work for a while. At least u til you can find something full time in Omaha. It would su-k for a bit but better than a van while you’re job searching.
Network peers/colleagues that have moved to other companies. There are jobs out there but it’s much more helpful to have a reference or referral from someone already working there.
If one were on the outside looking in, they likely would not take a job in another
city with a company they knew nothing about. So, why on earth would anyone
move to another city to take a job with the cesspool they already know.
They know all this, and bank on it.

Not buying this AT ALL!
The T Titanic ship has already set sail.
The T train wreck has already left the station.
T isn’t making revenue, in massive debt and RTO is the quickest way to shed employees/cost.
Period
This is just me but I would not turn my life upside down for a job or a company unless I owned the company. No way, no how.
Years ago I knew a guy who got promoted, moved his family from NJ to GA. Got a nice house, etc... He was there a year and T laid him off. After a year of being unemployed and not having a large social network as he was not from GA he ended up moving back to NJ and living with his inlaws. He was destroyed financially. I met him again while he was working in a liq-or store trying to make some money to get back on his feet.
Another guy I know went to a job temporarily living in an apartment while his wife and family were in another state. The plan was that she and the kids would join him after everything settled down. After a long while I guess the wife got lonely and found herself a new man. And just like that he ended up divorced.
Are you willing to move on your dime for a "job" that is not even secure? They wont even guarantee that you will have a job.
And than what will you do if they lay you off?
DONT DO IT. Find a local or remote job in another company and GET OUT.
The layoffs in this company will NEVER STOP.
I have only been here a short while and am planning on leaving. This company is MUCH WORSE than T was 20 years ago. Good riddance.

“ Why can’t you move? They have apartments anywhere you have to move to until you get settled.”
As if moving is as easy as the snap of a finger. Forgetting the obvious large personal financial impact you would face, you realize people have families and lives outside of work, right? Sorry you have no life outside the office and no one else to care about.

If Mr. Farley can do it, anyone can!

Honestly I don’t understand the defeatist attitude. You make it sound as if there is no other place of employment. Why not seek full time employment elsewhere? You’re hardly “old”. What are we missing here?
Sorry to read this. I have heard stories of people in Silicon Valley living in vans because they cant afford to live there.
The forcing to hubs was a real d*ck move. IBM did the same thing a number of years ago even before the pandemic. Everyone was remote and than they had to report to a hub.
With that being said you are not to old to make changes. I have been in multiple industries and will not be staying at T. Get out while you still have your health.
If this is an authentic post, I can assure you that are ways to live economically, but would advise against living in a van for so many reasons. Try living with housemates or roommates. Or look into the cheapest apartment you can find and live frugally.
Many of us were hoping for a miracle or simply ‘stuck’ not being able to make a decision to leave T for another job (such a frustrating and humbling experience, for jobs that pay less or have worse benefits). Even more difficult to take the plunge & follow work to various hubs with no assurances.
Stay safe, be courageous and do the best that you can for yourself. Be strong & well, OP!
I found a room for rent. 400 a month but have an hour commute into Dallas. 7 more months!!!!
