If you believe this stuff will be available in 2029, then you'll believe anything and... I have bridge to sell you in London. No mention of Arvind's golden boy, Dario in this article.
BUT...
What happens if the fabled quantum computers fail to materialize in 2029 ? Where will Arvind and Dario be ? Basking in the sun somewhere in the Caribbean or hiding from the Italian Mafia underground ? After all, a billion dollars is a lot of $$$. ($10 billion is even more). LOL.

I work on Q at a New York site, and it is very cringeworthy to see the proud claims being made in the news. The journalists should be ashamed. This is not journalism. It feels more like propaganda.

They use buzzwords and hype without checking the facts, and they should be held accountable for that. By creating unrealistic expectations and public milestone dates, they are setting us up for failure. If those targets are not met, it will be the employees doing the work who face the consequences and risk losing their jobs.

@an under Arvind Krishna's leadership, IBM has been consistently winning in the race to the bottom.
And he knows it too.

Why does he care? He won't be the CEO by 2029. Just hype to prop up the stock price... Just fine by me.

People have been predicting IBM's demise for decades, yet here it is still leading in enterprise technology, AI, and quantum research. Whether the 2029 milestone is achieved exactly on schedule or not, at least Arvind Krishna is investing in the future instead of managing decline. Under his leadership, IBM has strengthened its AI portfolio, expanded hybrid cloud capabilities, and remains one of the world's leading quantum computing companies. It's easy to mock ambitious goals; it's harder to build the technology that could make them reality.

If you conducted an anonymous survey of the scientists and engineers who actually work in the field of Quantum Computing and asked the question, "will commercially viable fault tolerant Quantum Computers exist in 2029?" - 100% of them will answer "NO". Again, that's assuming it's anonymous and assuming they can somehow be assured than an honest answer will not reduce funding flowing into the field.
