Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

How much of your workload is now being done by AI

Just curious how game changing AI has been in various areas of the business. Is it giving greater capability or is it reducing the load?

It’s doing 100% of my prevoius tasks. It’s very helpful, now I can focus my energy on my health and family.

@an agreed... AI really reduces my reliance on WFH employees. I don't have to spend as many hours waiting on their deliverables.

It’s a useful tool for understanding things faster, for assisting with troubleshooting efforts, reading huge logs in summarizing what happened in a short period of time. I’m sure many vendors have been using similar tools that they developed to interpret logs…they just don’t make them available to the masses. It definitely doesn’t replace a whole person unless you have a person that does little or nothing…and frankly, all teams do…VZ just can’t seem to figure this out since the people who do so little are the ones spending more time working on not working than they do making meaningful contributions…and at the end of the day, I almost don’t blame them! No matter what your review…still same raise…doesn’t matter if you work 10x harder than the rest…it doesn’t seem to matter a great deal. Which is unfortunate. A company that wants to cut so much staff should start doing this intelligently.

Absolutely 0 help when it comes troubleshooting with field techs & customers on a conference call.

@ed Imagine being uninformed enough NOT to know that it isn't anything BUT a probability machine.

If you're one of those making decisions, the whole outfit is "cookef".

@ad Absolutely none.

If you're leaning on ai to do your job, you weren't any good at your job in the first place. All you've demonstrated is that you have skills no better than a probability machine.

For me, it is definitely useful. Its not a complete solution by any means. Its a very good tool, nothing more in my situation. The problem is probably more around lack of leadership fundamentals. Less focus on AI and MUCH MORE focus on just knowing what the heck you are doing, how to add real sustainable value and navigate with integrity and real professionalism. A clown is not a leader.

All of it. We could easily lay off 30% across the board. This company is bloated and simply cannot afford the dead weight any longer.

I'm using AI to get the work done that others don't do, it's replacing the need to ask for help.

Outside of notes and summarization, maybe some sql, zero. But using it because forced. My job still needs human judgment and collaboration
