Those are in the know now, are YIR and external teama feedback considered during charting out who gets laid off? If GL-32 is very happy with my performance and thinks highly of my contribution, will that matter during RIF where only a few teammates are fired? I joined about a year ago, got 5/5 YIR and was told I was one of the highest rated our of 24+ on our team but the project I was working on got shelved in May due to Reorg. If I get RIFed, I cannot imagine having to find another job right now due to personal situation. My GL31 tried to move me to a different domain thats funded, but that also got stalled due to funding allocation between various teams. My only hope is my YIR and being my GL32s good list will somehow position me to survive the April layoff. No one should be going through this afternoon working so hard every single day and I did like the role despite the grind.

"AI cant do your job. But an AI salesman can convince your boss to replace you with AI. "- cory doctorow
@ar This is the answer. Even if someone doesn’t think their job can be offshored, I promise this company is working on making that possible with AI. Whether that’ll work is a different topic, but since when has Optum cared about anything actually working?
My peer got 5, good bonus, RSU in Feb. Got laid off on March. It was his first year and was doing an amazing job so much so that he asked for a promotion ( he was more senior in his previous job) and they had even verbally said he was a strong candidate.
@ap UHC-Optum Tech
Nobody is safe in Corporate America. I did not work for Optum or UHC, but a competitor. I always got great reviews and ratings. A lot of employee recognitions. The most on my team. I was always told how critical I was. And I got laid off. Along with a number of other high performers. For me, I believed it was age, years of service and salary. But I knew others that were younger with less years of service and lower salaries were let go. They had to pepper in some young ones to make it not look like age discrimination.
Zmuda is one of the most openly incompetent executives ive ever seen. Its nauseating.
@an If you truly love what you do, it’s often for one of two reasons: either you’re exceptionally good at it—so much so that it sets you apart—or the job comes easily to you. In the first case, your excellence can unintentionally threaten both management and peers. In the second, when budgets tighten, roles perceived as “too easy” are often the first to be questioned.
Nobody is safe.. 100x , zamuda n crew have created a toxic org with a mission of firing everyone in US and replace them with cheap offshore. Quality is not a consideration.
@af if they want to lay off 5 out of 20 in a team to cut cost, YIR/performance and your VPs impression does matter, no? OP says their SG32 likes them. I would imagine VP will have a day who is let go and who stays?
@af sorry! What department? When?
@a6 care to explain why? Genuine question!
I was rated a 5 on my team and got RIFed. I don't think I was the most expensive, but performance really doesn't matter. I also had the best manager I ever had RIFed.
Unfortunately, if you love this job, you will most likely get cut. That's an observation not prediction
Just live below your means. Save money. Youll be fine.
