Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Franklin Site Legacy EMC / VCE

Hard to believe how much things have changed. What used to be a busy, collaborative place now feels like a complete ghost town. Empty floors, no energy, barely anyone around. It honestly feels like The Walking Dead, people just showing up, wandering around, and ki-ling time.

There’s not much actual work happening here anymore. Teams are gone or spread out, roles eliminated, and a lot of the real work seems to have moved elsewhere or just disappeared. So what exactly is the point of RTO when you come in and there’s nothing to do?

Curious if others are seeing the same thing. Is this just a slow fade until the site eventually shuts down?

Minimal compliance to avoid PIP. Don’t make Michael richer by breaking your back. Find meaningful personal projects for the sake of your own mental health.

@OP I’m not in Mass, but the times I’ve visited Hopkinton it felt like you describe. The only buzzing part of the office was conference rooms occupied by me and the partner I manage.

lol, we were just talking about this exact topic today in office... Dell wants people RTO due to bullsht reasons such as "we feel in person collaboration works best!" or whatever tf they said. Last Friday for example, I being a good little boy went in and it was myself and literally ONE other person - whom I don't hardly know, or work with but is in my org - and we left after an hour.

Today, a handful of us were talking about it and it's ridiculous. It doesn't make any sense for the orgs (my org) who are spread across the globe to go in 5 days/week. It takes me an hour to get to the office, another 10 mins to find a GD parking spot, another 5 minutes just to get to the front door, and another 5 minutes to get to a desk. Then another 5 minutes to connect to VPN and be 100% functional again, only to have one other person on my team be there lol.. So, that's almost 90 minutes of time that could be spent working... from home.

The only reason I quit coffee badging is because I actually DO enjoy being in the office for a few hours (2 hours) but, also because it is super easy for execs to run a Splunk query to find out who is ACTUALLY going INTO the office and not just badging in. I don't believe they will ever enforce a policy that says you "must" be in office for xyz hours until/unless people start bi--hing about how "well I'm in office 8 hours a day and xyz is only there for 3 hours."

Oh, and those in Bangalore are only required to go in 3 days/week for some fkn reason...

@b1 If they hadn’t gotten rid of some of the most dynamic and intelligent people maybe they still would be buzzing.

@an I think they used Franklin to place the strays that had been living southeast of that area and claimed Hop was too far away.

@b0 Regarding my Franklin story… the swipes counted they just wondered why I went and took up space and oxygen in Hopkinton and not at my assigned location. I also think that transaction between the powers that be and my boss showed that some people have too much time on their hands.

@az I thought badge swipes counted regardless of the office you swiped at?

Funny story about Franklin. When the RTO edict was issued I was considered full time remote. Before the WFH order in 2020 I was assigned to Hopkinton, Then the RTO order was instituted I assumed that I would return to Hop. Funny thing, I was listed as a Franklin based employee. My manager had received an email that I had not shown up to work in Franklin. Or should I say I never swiped at Franklin. It took until September to straighten them out. I quit a week later.

Hmmm… never mind, it’s not that funny.

Does Franklin really still exist outside of manufacturing at 50? Ed services vacated 55 some time ago, yeah?

Yes, hidden unemployment seems to be everywhere these days, people are here physically, but the amount of work is minimal if any.

Seeing a lot of consolidation with the 1 manager to 20+ employees.

Still seeing a lot of people not complying to the RTO. It seems like it depends on where you are in the corporation.

The few people I talk to are just living day to day, week to week, month to month etc.
