RTO so I can join teams calls all day. This sure makes a lot of sense.

@kj and eq, thank you. Makes sense and I hope they figure this out. What a waste of time and energy!!
This is the slow time of year for my department. We are literally going in and doing hardly nothing right now.
@e8 most orgs were heavily fractured geographically due to the merger and pandemic-era hiring practices. I worked almost exclusively with people within my building in the pre-COVID. Now, I directly work with no one in person.
Uber badging central. They tried bringing indian teams back in office but cant stay longer than an hour due to moonlighting two jobs. Management is clueless!
@e8 - When I started telecommuting in the late 2000s we used Webex for calls. There are jobs within IT, like mine, where you support multiple groups, multiple departments - with your own team being spread across the footprint. So I think the argument some are making is, co-locate with whom exactly?
Honest question out of curiosity: those on Teams calls much of the day, what did you do before Teams or video chat? Just regular conference calls? Was that office-based as well? I’m asking because I’m in a job that is NOT on the phone all day …. I’m more subject to random and spontaneous convo’s so physical
Presence is important. I’m just trying to understand because I agree it’s ridiculous to make someone come in just to be on conference calls. Thx.
@an May not be possible as this is just the disposition some of us are dealt. Just be yourself?
@bj this will be changing, all offices will soon have badge swipe in AND out, some with double swipe doors to enter to reduce “tailgating”.
@OP - our office has no badge swipes - all the folks w RTO were here by 8:30 and already left the building before lunch! I guess RTO didn’t apply to them!
@an This is a big problem. I've seen people walk up and down office talking at full volume, with absolutely NO respect for others who are on calls. It will only get worse.
I just hope people can figure out how to speak on calls with a quiet voice. I don’t need to hear every word you’re saying from across the room.
But Jenny and Billy feel that you’ll be more productive this way.
Isn’t that what’s really important?
Once they identify a space for me, I’ll have to go back to the office. But it really makes no sense. My entire team all working different cities. I’ll be going to the office to join Teams meetings.
