Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Why do *YOU* Work Here

Honest question, why do you like working at Schwab? There seems to be so much contention about poor management, legacy technology and vast pay differences. What is it that keeps you here? Especially those of you that have been here for so long. Are you hoping for things to go back to the good old days?

I am almost a year in. I came due to pay, 45% bump from Empower for the EXACT same job. I’ve had a relatively good experience so far. My team is great and very helpful.

BILLS BILLS BILLS.

I work because I have bills to pay to live a pretty modest life in this country.

I like what I do. Plain and simple. I deal with the cr-p because every company has cr-p to deal with.

I’ve been here a little over a year. So far I have enjoyed my time at Schwab. My boss is great, really has a great management style with great culture.

I came from a wire house and for the same exact job with lower goals, my salary is $40K more, benefits cost less, and PTO is equal.

@an did you accept the offer then they rescinded it or do you go past their week or tried to negotiate it more?
Interesting to have it rescinded because everything was already approved including budget before it was posted. That’s a bummer either way.

I had an external offer go past their week due to negotiations but they didn’t rescind it and met most of what I asked for so I get to leave this wretched place soon provided they don’t rescind it before my start date.

I think the answer is pretty simple: A paycheck. In case you haven’t noticed, the job market has been terrible for a while now. “Actual jobs” (not ghost postings) are few and far between. It’s not always easy to just quit and/or try to switch over somewhere. Most people can’t lose the paycheck with the increased cost of living, daycare, rent/mortgage, bills etc.

Sure things aren’t necessarily sure anymore either. I had an offer letter from a company with higher pay and better benefits, only to have it rescinded a week later because of budget stuff. It was literally my exact job and I was more than qualified. Thank god I didn’t put my two weeks in.

I have a lot of problems with the way Schwab is run, but I will say our benefits are pretty decent. Health coverage for me and my family and the prospect of sabbatical also keep me here. Schwab isn’t the worst and is great in a lot of ways, but people come here to air grievances because it’s a safe place. Doing that at work can get you the axe from my experience
