Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Change My Mind: This is in reality a 70% US Workforce Reduction

I’ve looked at my org plus a few others I have some knowledge about and the ELT is purposely lying about the real numbers. The positions just aren’t there.

It’s obvious they know people can see through the charade because they’re deeply concerned something is going to happen and as a result have upped the presence of security.

It’s almost impossible to accurately determine the size of the new org because we don’t know how many Chosen Ones (ie out of scope) there are. They exist, and they walk among us.

The listed positions are just those they want us to go full hunger games on. The “core” of the company has already been formed.

To the company you are a disposable cog if you are in scope.

Outsourcing to a country of call centers, scamming and fraud. Good luck.

Representatives love offshoring work because it pleases their donors. Politicians represent special interest groups, lobbyists, and corporate donors. Politicians do not represent constituents in their districts.

The company clearly is making every effort to encourage attrition.

@as+1 Your representative won’t care about a very small number of jobs going overseas. Two examples- both Apple and GM have over 50,000 employees overseas, and many other US companies have far, far more than these CVX jobs. Besides, politicians primarily respond to large donations directly to them or their PAC, and they couldn’t care less about a few constituents complaining via email or phone.

Contact your representatives if you are tired of the offshoring going on. Might not help but at least go down fighting versus doing nothing at all!

Can't wait to see these L1 managers weasel their way out of accountability when local site competencies are at an all-time low and the ENGINE is now a bottleneck for subpar engineering solutions leading to the DS&C sites running like sh*t. Share holders now might be a great time for an exit strategy, move on from this sinking ship!

The Company is heading into a future where it essentially only operates existing assets, stops exploration and major capital projects, so jettisoning all the earth science and engineering talent is consistent with that strategy.

Re: ‘ They talk about various efficiencies through 2026. This means there will be a wave 3 and wave 4.’

Our team was warned early that 2025 wasn’t the end of the shift so I’m pretty sure you’re right. As it is with all the changes, I don’t see some of the obvious ones being made and assume we’re moving pieces for the next cut.

This happened in the late 80s when oil companies gutted their engineering staff. The solution at that time was to hire EPC firms to fill the void on a case by case basis. The thinking was that high priced engineers with associated burden was carried over to the project. When the project ended, all contractors were let go. I'm going to guess in the interim the ELT will do the same thing.

Watch the SETH again. They spoke about wave 1 and wave 2. But never said that was it.

Then watch all the public comments. They talk about various efficiencies through 2026. This means there will be a wave 3 and wave 4.

In the future they will have layoffs instead of PDCs. Many jobs will be out of scope, but some will be in scope. Every 6 months you will have to wait to see if you have to fight for your job again.

The real kicker is we only know that the 2025 layoffs come with severance. The 2026 ones may be positioned as performance based. In that case you get nothing.

Get ready to be on a sinking ship for the next few years.

The writing is on the wall. This re-org marks a truly fundamental change never seen before in Chevron’s history. The company’s actions of massive US-based workforce reductions far larger than any re-org ever before send a clear message - Chevron’s focus from here on will be international employees such as Engine, and will be progressively be phasing out US-based employees across the board over time since they are considered “too expensive”. Even for those who survive this re-org, there will be additional reductions coming in the next couple years as Engine and other international support centers get up and running. There is simply no future for US-based employees at Chevron, and career advancement is a thing of the past. Either get out now and at least take your severance, or have an exit plan for a year or two from now at most - the future is going to be ugly.
