Oregonian is working on tomorrows article:

"When I got to work this morning, the building was locked and we needed to swipe badges to get in," the employee said. "Security warned employees not to let people behind them in. Security told us that the procedure would be different today, and they collected our badges and scanned them themselves (rather than having us scan them) and had us wait, lined against the wall, while they were doing so."

@9bc The day after the holiday can't be tomorrow, because today is not a holiday and tomorrow is Saturday and laying people off on a Saturday would be weird and inappropriate.

The day after the holiday appears to be tomorrow, even though it is not actually tomorrow.

Monday is not tomorrow as of today but it will be tomorrow as of the day prior to Monday, at which time it will be tomorrow until it is Monday, then it will no longer be tomorrow.

It is a slow grind here on out, until we find a way to get to profitability.

I am not sure who will go bankrupt first, Intel or the U.S.

As long as most of the layoffs occur outside of US then no problem

If your unable to log in and/or your badge doesn't work then you are the chosen one.

Due to so many never setting foot on premises, the layoff notification for many will be inability to log in.

Try to be calm and prepared. The layoff process usually takes some time when you need to fire so many employees at once and Intel manager are lazy and stupid enough to accomplish this task timely.
This is how layoffs have been happening at Intel for the last 10 years. The head of a department receives an excel file from HR via email that already has the main criteria for layoffs. For example, the number of years at the same rank without receiving EE or Outstanding, or when the employee's salary exceeds 3 sigma from the normal statistical distribution for the corresponding rank. Also, employees who received BE or AR during the last 2 focals. Such people are subject to immediate dismissal. Or, for example, if an employee meets the criteria of rules 75, 60, or 55. Such employees were very strongly encouraged to take the early retirement package. In addition, when entire groups were cut, all employees of the group or department were laid off (without exceptions and the possibility of finding a position in another group). Lower-level managers had no influence on layoff decisions. Lower and middle managers were only required to ensure that layoffs were in accordance with the order handed down from the top management. Department managers could recommend their immediate supervisor to keep the employee, but a really positive decision was made only in the case of a potential or real lawsuit from the dismissed employee (pregnant women, LGBT, race).
In the absence of a focal, the role of an additional criterion for dismissal will be played by lists of employees, which are critically required for business. The list of such employees with unique knowledge and skills were already prepared 4 months ago in each Intel unit. The priority to leave will be given to employees with unique skills who are at a lower salary and rank. Those people who are currently on long term relocation are not protected but also are the subject of common criteria. Keep it easy as you only can in your situation and try to have a lovely May and June.

@an... let me guess you are a liberal. Nothing is your fault and if you don't get your way you respond with hate and anger. What a sad existence. The people you mentioned may have played a role in where you are today but so did you. So now your plan is to stalk these people to get even. It must be h3ll inside your head. Get help while you still have medical insurance.

Earnings is today after hours. Layoffs in the hours before!?? So they will have the numbers when the results are announced.

Please take note and remember the names of all the managers, leaders and people who have wronged you. Then wait to see where then end up. Then contact these new employers with their own personal review. Don’t let them off the hook. And don’t write it off as just not personal. It is and they are fu--ing you. You are now at the mercy of their personal ignorance and preference remember that. And they deserve to be held accountable so remember their names and wait for when the time is right.
