Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

If it was up to merit- who would our real leaders be?

We know leadership at a certain point is about potential- not actual merit or experience/ qualifications.

Who would you say our great leaders would be if it was really up to merit and qualifications?

In a sane world Rich Kruger would be CEO instead of Darren. Best natural I have seen in XOM….smart, inspirational, good communicator….had it all until Rex knifed him for disagreeing on XTO. Su-ks….i have a feeling we would be a different and better company now.

Leaders are no longer developed internally; hence, it will be from outside like Amman and Mikels. More of that in future. The current batch of CL 36+ will infuture be those that can drill on wall street. People from refinery / petrochem /or upstream operations have no future in XOM management. They do have a future in service companies or EPC companies. ExxonMobil is an Energy Investment Bank, future leaders will be energy investment bankers, finance and possibly traders. No longer need operating personnel running business development and M&A.

@c2 When was the last time you ran into anyone with natural leadership ability? It’s probably been a while. There’s a reason for that.

Personally, all I want from any job is my paycheck. If they want to put lackies in charge, that’s their problem. It’s not my job to clean up their messes.

Kevin B and Don D are two former IT leaders I can think of that were good people to work with/for

@am - Easily to mock and dismiss OP, but he/she is telling the truth. Look at our stock performance over the last 10 years - the results speak of itself how strong the leadership is. We are a company that values how you look versus what you do.

They all retired in 2020 and 2021 or if they stayed they were pipd and fired. Honesty did not pay them nor now

None. None of them have done anything to generate much of value for the company and continue to hemorrhage headcount so the books look better quarter by quarter.
