A mistake in the making

It’s frustrating watching upper management toss out people with twenty-plus years of knowledge just to make numbers look good for a quarter. I thought we were past this, but I was wrong. The short-term mindset is going to bite them hard down the road. No one seems to care, though.

I am being forced out. I am RE and an endangered species. I have asked to help with the pilot plants coming from NJ Clinton. I have been refused and told to continue my useless work. It is exxons way of phasing me out. I am not being allowed to flourish or excell. They are giving the work to the young inexperienced people. I expect lots of booms and explosions on start up. I will be gone by then and will read about it on the internet. The future is not bright but dangerous.

The C-suite, Presidents, and Vice Presidents DO NOT CARE The ranking system has worked very well for them They do not care about the long term; they want what they can su-k out of the system before they retire in 4-6 years.

Once you understand this, you can move on and realize that when their lips are moving, they are lying.

In circa 2000, all pilot plants in Mobil Research and Engineering were moved to the Exxon facilities in Baton Rouge or Baytown, Texas. When the money ran out to uncrate the pilot plants in Baton Rouge and Baytown, some of the pilot plants just remained in the wooden boxes for the next twenty years.

I remember the V.P. of Exxon Research telling 50 to 75 Mobil Chemists and Engineers that they needed to relocate from New Jersey to Baton Rouge, Louisiana because Exxon had "state of the art of pilot plants and state of the art scientists and engineers."

One very wise Mobil scientist responded to the Exxon Research V.P. who was obviously lying that, "If Exxon really had state of the equipment and state of the art people in Baton Rouge, why not just move the Mobil scientists and engineers to Baton Rouge only, and just run the Exxon state of the art equipment. Why do we need to move 100% of Mobil's pilot plants to Baton Rouge? The Exxon V.P. of Research was speechless when that comment was made.

They're doing it to us techs here in Clinton, many with 20+ years of knowledge.
Again, I say "good luck" to those in charge of restarting in all the equipment in Texas without any of the people who actually know how to run it.

TBH, there isn’t much institutional knowledge for an asset management company. Because of all the short assignments, not many 20-year experience folks are real experts in any domain, unless you’re counting knowing all the acronyms as knowledge. That’s why we’re not valued. Look at all the news that OpenAI researchers got hired for 1B 2 years post-PhD. That is called knowledge.

They’ve been convinced by management consultants that the agent AI models will be more valuable than institutional knowledge that comes with experience. It a bold move Cotton, let’s see if it plays out.
