Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I would feel more respected if corporate were honest.

If management would drop the past messaging of "hire to retire" and admit that things are different now and then change the compensation structure and corporate language to reflect the current employee/company relationship I would feel respected. Probably not happy but at least feel like I was being treated like a smart person.

Call it what it is so all cards are on the table and we can move forward in a transparent relationship together.

Duh, the pension will be the nuclear option at the final stage of reductions.

@OP

They will be getting rid of the pension soon enough.

yup. they pretty much tolf their workforce this week that we have a contract until Polaris at best. and then it will be hunger games for whoever remains. but of course that's not what they said in their curated messages. because otherwise they could not harp about WAEM.

For years we haven’t promoted the concept of “hire to retire” during on-campus recruiting. At least at the university I was on the recruiting team for.

Respect and honesty have never been EM’s hallmarks. That’s why they’re known to the outside as “double cross.”

Seems to me like an easy win to strengthen trust at no cost to the corporation.

Why carry on with a employment strategy from past years when things are clearly different now?
