Massive division layoffs coming

Dave Watson announced elimination of division structure starting in January. Frontline divisional teammates will stick around, everything else is moving to HQ. Unsure if just residential or resi and CB. Regional roles will still exist. Crazy that they've gotten away without filing a warn notice since 2020.

Oof the communications have totally been botched this feels like a half cocked idea thats being pushed out too soon. There is a lot of bloat and opportunities for consolidation but I feel sorry for the good people getting caught up in this. Hopefully the right people catch on in new roles. But not a chance this will be fully implemented by Jan 1st.

I really hope the Central Division SLT is happy, they caused this. NED and West had their quirks but you could work and get stuff done with them. But Central never failed to pull childish antics. Dwight, Liz, Reji, Tracy, well done guys.

@er so much for the all American company that hangs new flags for vets and sponsors Team USA Its now team Chennai. I'll be telling anyone who will listen about it. I wouldn't expect customer growth. When customers have a choice, they chose another provider.

There are ~6700 employees in the 2026 budget who work in division shared services. Assuming around 500-700 work directly with the front line, the 6k estimate is accurate

Makes sense now why Comcast India has surged in saturation in the last quarter. Working under Elad’s TPX & NGAN they will likely pick up a lot of the Division’s engineering roles that roll up to National. Gotta love how the crammed it down our throats during Your Voice how “people are our #1 asset” and the importance of culture yet here we are getting outsourced months later.

Man, what a day. My heart goes out to the people who got caught up in this, especially the ones I know were great at their jobs. But let's be real, not everyone was pulling their weight. I've always felt that some of those roles, especially within the Atlanta Business Services sales leadership, were a waste of resources. The regions are strong and can handle things on their own.

You have to see this from a business perspective. We're facing crazy competition everywhere. Wireless and fiber companies are eating into our internet market. VoIP and security are more competitive than ever. And with video spinning off, the writing was on the wall. If anyone didn't see this coming, they must have their head in the sand. This is the reality of the market.

@b6 the business side is actually doing well overall. It’s just the small business legacy part where the losses are coming. Revenue is flowing in from the larger companies.

Long expected. Heavily redundant. So many great people and many good friends but the division model is a relic of another era.

Just adding my two cents. I worked in the financial leadership but left a couple of years ago. We ran the numbers back then and the “savings” would be roughly $1B per year if you eliminated the Divisions. That was the total people-cost. $1B divided by roughly $160k loaded cost per employee gives about 6,250 people. So, I think the 6k estimate is fairly close.

This decision saves the budget for 2026. But then what? Video (traditional cable tv) is in free fall, fixed line voice is dead, broadband over cable is falling - they will lose over 1 million subscribers this year. And even Comcast Business lose more customers than they gain. If they don’t turn the tide very soon, they have to continue to cut the workforce year after year. The only line of business growing is Mobile, but that is a very low margin product over Verizon network and can not save the company.

This is true. All 3 divisions are being eliminated.

are they just going to lay off every single employee at the division level? I can't see that happening? A friend of mine said they already started laying off people in HQ today, mostly VPs

I don't think there are even 6k in all the divisions. the majority of division roles were already moved to HQ at the beginning of the year. So, this 6k number has to be coming from more than just the divisions.
