Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Can you file for unemployment if you are surplused?

I am afraid that I will be surplussed tomorrow. If it happens, can we file for unemployment even if we get a severance package? Does it matter if we are union vs non-union?

You can apply but you won’t get it.

It’s not even the government’s money. I’ve contributed to this fund since I was 15 years old and have never drawn. I’m owed!

No you haven't your employer has you put nothing into it

Some states you can’t get severance and unemployment at the same time. You have to work through severance to get unemployment

HR person here (but NOT AT&T HR). It depends on the state you reside in. Georgia does not allow you to collect UI while receiving severance but some states do.

No one cares that you have a Stankey hug pillow that you cuddle with every night.

That’s the spirit. Since the DEI hires get to take your job, you can slide in and take their freebies.

In NJ, yes but you should not pull from your pension while on unemployment. Severance has no impact.

New Jersey has one of the very best worker protection laws in the country.

Of course you get unemployment when you’re laid off. That’s the entire purpose of unemployment benefits.

Yes in Georgia...I was on the surplus list last year...thankfully found a job but I did see in the paperwork that you could file for unemployment.
