Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

Human Centered

I received an ISP today. I was given less than one week per year served in severance. I’ve been laid off before. Typically, the standard is two weeks per every year served.

To provide some context, I got laid off from a job I had for 14 years (not at EJ, and in an entirely different industry, but working for a large company) and I got one week severance for each year served. If you're getting two weeks per year of service, you're getting twice what I did. Either way, it still su-ks, and I'm sorry you're having to go through what I went through.

It is possible the OP is a troll. “less than 1 week” does not even sound possible.

Watching people who have outstanding work ethic and love for their work get money stripped away and moved to different roles or lose their job makes my skin crawl. Not a place I recognize….. sorry to hear you had to go through that

@aa thank you for the information. My GP gave very limited information. I am gathering questions as they come up. I appreciate your help.

@OP
Request a copy of the Severance Plan and Plan Description or search for it on sharepoint if you still have access.

Section B. Severance Benefits
1) Cotinuation of Base Salary
If involuntary terminated, the firm will provide severance equal to two weeks of base pay for each full year of service.

Some areas received a direct link to the document.

Ask them to provide in writing why you do not qualify for the two weeks as stated in the document.

Potentially contact an employment lawyer. Look for law firms that practice Missouri that currently have open cases against the firm. This eliminates the risk of the firm being able to retain the law firm for their own services.

Read every document communicated to you. If a document is vague or you were told something different ask for clarification in writing.

I would rather not say exactly how many years I had put in. It was double digits. I am receiving 11 weeks severance. I was not offered a VSP before today.

@OP Your GP either misspoke or an error was made. Minimum is 6 weeks or 2 weeks per year served (prorated if this year is partial) - whichever is higher.

They have it posted in writing everywhere that it’s 2 weeks of base pay for each full year, the minimum being 6 weeks of Severance Pay. How is this possible?

Wow! During VSP they said only difference between VSP and ISP was a max cap on weeks and cobra benefits. So it sounds like they changed it from 2 weeks shown to 1 week for each year then? ! Wow. I wonder if this is due to 2 months paid time off aka via WARN.

@OP I'm sorry to hear that! How many years of service did you have? Were you previously offered VSP?
