Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

The Vibes Are Off...

Not sure if it's just certain locations, but does anyone see how the vibes are off more so than usual? Alot of meetings, changes in departments, changes in work loads, outsourcing work out of the country.. We already established that the lack of cars in the lots are def less than usual.. Not sure when you had to attend a Town Hall meeting to go over how "great" the company is doing, but it just seems eerily off..

@g01 it’s because they are not communicating. In the past they would send out memos or announcements.

Canon has lost a lot of great talent. What they're doing to employees by creating is uncertainty by cruel. KMA, Sammy.

@e7 Blame Sammy. The bucks stops at his desk. He has turned the company into clown show. He has the soul of a cyborg.

Expect more vitriolic comments on this site. If a layoff comes, I will retire early. I have had enough of bullsh-t corporate games. They can stick it where the sun never shines. Start making Sammy voo-doo dolls so he can be poked and suffer.

I can confirm the numbers are very terrible. There is no way they can keep this going much longer without SIGNIFICANT DEEP CUTS in staffing. I’d suggest doing resume prep by month end, I certainly will be just to be on the safe side.

We'll see where the Q2 numbers finish off, revenue and profit. June is looking to be an abysmal month compared to the start of Q2 and inventory issues are making everything worse still. Will the employees be blamed for reduced revenue and profit dollars thanks to tariff costs (and Japan shipping less to the states while negotiations continue as a result), or will the little guys again take the proverbial hit via more layoffs?

It's not a great time in the country to end up unemployed, with the job market where it is. Hopefully corporate chooses to ride the wave a while longer instead of ruining another huge swathe of families' lives to try to maintain the already cartoonish 2025 profit goals set back in December (53% year-over-year profit increase? Come on, man...).

Having been employed for a long time, the reality, to me, is the company isn't where it was years ago, the business doesn't seem like it's picking up anytime soon, Sales aren't where they were, nor will they be, Management is doing their best to make the work environment even worse, people are scrambling for work because of it being outsourced and the morale is just at an all time low.. You can tell by seeing co-workers how miserable they are and just trying to get thru "one more day".. So, for some, if a round of layoffs come around in the near future, or even another early retirement package, this will be ALOT of people's prayers that have been answered...

@aj I agree 💯, given everything that is going on in the diff locations, things, to me, are def pointing to another round of layoffs and the month of July would be the time.. This mess isn't getting any better...

I think the “vibes” are off for one clear reason. You have a number of senior leaders between the ages of 55-65 trying to hold onto a salary they know they will never see again in their lifetime.

These leaders are scared to report up the brutal truth about market conditions because they fear it will show weakness and highlight them as being incompetent to get the job done. At the same time, they know demand is down across the board. Companies are not willing to commit to long term leases or pay more for equipment they feel they simply don’t need. Transactions today are resulting in less revenue when compared to deals in the past. The push for new business is the only real answer. New business is tough though when we have seen a series of price increases and you happen to be the highest price in an otherwise commodity based industry.

So yes, the “vibes” are down because no one has any real answers on how to stop this sink from sinking. We are all just making what we can make and hoping for the best. In the end, blame Canon Inc. For a company that prides themselves on patents, we haven’t had any breaking edge technologies come out. Same old product at a higher price? No thank you.
