Post ID: @OP+1jjkvt07b There were Never any "competent" "Managers" in $hittybank to begin with. How can there be any left or remaining??? Zero minus zero still equals zero, the last time I checked. ROTFLMFAOFFLOLOL !
That's true Ops has alot of fire drills...but budget is needed to truly resolve the issue
That’s why technical managers need an update. Citi integrating with so many new tools to keep up with the competition and so many managers holding on to the past and their dinosaur methods.
Example is manual processes rather than automate them.
They rather continue putting out the fire than take time and tackle some long term solutions that will better the team in the long run.
Thats great but they work at Citi and are meeting the requirements to work at citi...so the requirements outside the firm do not matter...
Big tech's interview process for applications managers needed multiple rounds of technical interviews. At Citi few managers know in depth knowledge on tech not all.
@ba+1jjkvt07b Lots of places outside of Citi expects engineering managers to know in depth technical knowledge and coding, in order to steer the program in right direction.
So many tech people can't see beyond their techie noses... Why would you want your manager to code? Your manager should be making sure you have everything you and your team need so that you can focus on the coding and deliver a successful product. A manager who spends their time coding or learning about coding instead of ensuring their coders get the latest training is not a good or competent manager!
Coding is for loser tech guys and our coding here su-ks anyway.
: @as+1jjkvt07b I want to work for you then !
I am pretty sweet. Come work fer me, only thing is I am in the states...
Even if the manager can code and or do financial calculations, it’s from a dinosaur era. My boss was a programmer before but I notice when he codes, it’s a very Java 5 style. It’s clunky. And also since citi is now changing their tools, the manager has not been keeping up with the latest tech in citi. Almost stuck in the past. Sure the fundamentals are there, but things are changing at a rapid pace.
: @aj+1jjkvt07b Can you code? And do financial calculations
I am here and extremely competent.
Competency doesn’t exist
Define competent. Boot lickers who can micro manage, carry the standard of fear and transfer that fear down? sure. But over the past few years we have lost our good leaders. I've had great bosses at Citi but I have been here a long time and they are long gone. Citi does not want good leaders. They want an army of yes men that can carry out their agenda or get tossed. And even if they wanted good leaders, they won't pay them and can 't attract them because good leaders know what a dumpster fire and career ki-ler this place is.
It sometimes feels like there was an intentional purge of good managers.
