Thread regarding Sears layoffs

The Manhattan NY job listings have been removed, so that store is now a completely Dead issue.

Manhattan is still hiring for that store that closed 2 Weeks ago. And Bronx still has openings for Cashiers. As OP Said, I'm surprised nobody from the closed Manhattan store was willing to be transferred there instead of just being Fired when the store closed. It's just a subway ride from there.

@1myo+1bPMn3E9 2 miles is nothing on paper, or coming from a car-oriented perspective. But in an area as transit heavy as the Bronx, 2 miles is a much greater distance

@aiy+1bPMn3E9 Well obviously, but if your read OP's post, I think he was asking why they didn't offer to transfer people from the nearby recently-closed Manhattan Kmart, to fill those jobs. Manhattan was a large Kmart with probably about 100 employees, surely a few of them could have been transferred to Bronx or White Plains upon closing? I'm sure a few might have been willing to be transferred, especially to Bronx, which is just a quick subway ride away.

@ljr+1bPMn3E9 Wow, I never realized the 2 Bronxes were that close together! They probably will close 1 of them, because they must just be taking business from each other with that kind of proximity!

I’m surprised there are still 2 stores in the Bronx especially since both are about 2 miles apart.

Usually when people quit, that results in a job opening.

Ya, Bronx is just hiring Cashiers, but still, it's odd that they wouldn't just grab some from Manhattan. White Plains is slightly further away (about 30 miles) but with the large amount of displaced workers, I'd be surprised if NONE of the Manhattan people would be willing to transfer there.

On a side note, on your link, it's interesting that Bridgehampton is so hard-up for workers that some of their job openings have $200 sign-on Bonuses! LOL, you can't even PAY people to take jobs at Kmart, and who can blame them for not taking them?
