Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Some things never change

If you thought for one second these layoffs would be handled in a sensible manner for a change, I hope now you see that's not the case. Valuable people are being let go so that slackers, hangers on, and "friends" can stay. Just found out the entire team that runs a successful internal program that saved Intel millions was canned. The program is just going to disappear, like so many other useful things at Intel, and the company couldn't care less.

Wow man the “LBT can do no wrong” brigade (headquartered in Stockholm) sure came by to trash this thread.

The “you saved millions last month but what are you worth today?” effect is very … the five bad CEO’s that created this mess.

I guess our mighty savior can’t fix everything

Does anyone know the percentage of non-IC being laid off this round?

@aw "Reduce chaos." You're funny. Intel has done nothing but create stress and chaos in the employee base for years.

@ba Interesting perspective. I didn't get that OP thought they had a guaranteed job. It sounds like they're mad because good workers are getting canned while slackers are staying.

@ba yeah this is not true in general, it might be just your personal experience. Overperforming will not save you, as well as underperforming will not doom you. Reality is more complex than corporate propaganda.

The thing that doesn't change is people who think they have a job for life. Perform and exceed or deteriorate and fail. I started at Intel in 2000 and they told me in NEO that I owned my employablity. Stop being a needed resource and you are toast. What they told you in NEO is still true today, you just forgot.

Get used to it. Past performance is no guarantee of a job in the future. If it was their job to save money they did it but what are they doing now and what will be their impact in the future.

I expect there will be more clarity on the future direction of Intel after the cuts are implemented. There is no communications before the cuts in order to reduce chaos. If this isn't the case than everyone is scr-wed and nothing they do really matters.

@as Corrective Action Plan. Not sure if that's the acronym Intel uses, but it's basically when your manager says "you need to do the following things to get back on track."

What is a CAP

@an And who are the so called “high performers”? Oh, you mean the ones who are given high performance reviews by the ones you don’t trust enough to keep on board. Think about what you want to say before opening the mouth.

@ah Low performers, managers with less than 10 direct reports, managers & VPs who only manager other managers & VPs, people on CAPs. Those are just a few off the top of my head. If you're out to save a company in this situation, you keep the high performers and people who are doing the work.

@a9 what are you talking about I just said they deleted two layers of middle management? Workers make up the vast majority of the company of course workers are getting cut lol. Engineers are getting cut, technicians are getting cut, management is getting cut, marketing, HR, security, IT is all getting outsourced.

Get off the soapbox and stop acting like this only affects D1 techs lol.

Worse yet, I heard they took OPs red stapler.

Oh the humanity.

@a8 They aren't "flattening the corporate structure" though. They're eliminating the workers, while management is staying. Seems like the goal is to have a team of coaches, but no players.
