Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Wave 4 will mirror Amazon!

Amazon has employees relocate to a few cities at their own expense and if they don’t , they have to leave with NO severance. You know Stankey is looking at this! https://finance.yahoo.com/news/amazon-orders-employees-relocate-seattle-212945920.html Bloomberg) — Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) is ordering some corporate employees to move closer to their managers and teams, roiling a workforce already worried about job cuts and warnings from the top that artificial intelligence will shrink their ranks in the coming years. Workers are being told to relocate to such cities as Seattle; Arlington, Virginia; and Washington DC, which in some cases would require them to move across the country, according to people familiar with the situation. Amazon is mostly rolling out the mandate in one-on-one meetings and town halls rather than sending out a mass email, said the people, who requested anonymity because they aren’t authorized to discuss company plans.

One of the people said the relocation policy will affect thousands of employees on several teams. Mid-career professionals with children in school and partners in established careers are reluctant to make big moves in light of Amazon’s belt-tightening efforts.

This already happened in Legal. Some were told we need to relocate at our own expense or lose our jobs. We moved, expecting to see a huge influx of movers, but there were very few. So many exceptions were allowed for remote work that the entire RTO mandate is a joke. Everyone is on Teams meetings with the remote workers with their doors closed that “collaboration by being in the office” is meaningless.

@dh Can't sign away rights for a federal civil rights violation lawsuit . Age discrimination is a protected class. The fact that they changed my title three months back so they could play a little game did not go unnoticed. This gamble is as OLD AS TIME. They BANK on you NOT consulting an attorney. That's how it's done. My attorney made me move my severance to a different account as soon as it hit. They can't claw it back from a different account other than the one it was deposited in. I doubt the attorney would be setting things up if he didn't think there was a lawsuit. File your EEOC violation for age discrimination, they can't stop you. They had options to trim all the H1B's they onboarded in the last four years, but they wanted cheap labor that the customer can hardly understand.

Please give it a rest. The employee survey will prove your wrong. Just because you say it does not mean it is reality. Take a walk down the hall and ask a few co-workers then tell us about the results.

Keep in mind most severance packages contain NDA's and/or covenants not to sue.

This. It is not worth the company's expense to fire you if you are going to file even a poor lawsuit. Much cheaper to offer severance and get you to sign away those rights. Force the company to do the right thing.

My response to them would be pretty simple: I'm not moving and I'm not tendering my resignation. I'd let them either offer a severance package for me to leave or they can fire me. Keep in mind most severance packages contain NDA's and/or covenants not to sue.

The difference is Amazon pays better and is literally a leader in two different sections in their business. What does ATT lead ? The best employees gravitate to the best company's. Att has already alienated the best employees to leave or fired them.

This should have been how RTO was rolled out when it was implemented. The ONLY way 5x makes any sense is everyone being in the same building with actual in person meetings and whiteboarding etc. but yes, this is likely in the works. Monkey see monkey do. Seems to me to get up the ladder you have to be a strictly color inside the box person and wholeheartedly live in groupthink. All the execs worshiping people like Jobs, Bezos, Musk, and Gates totally miss those people were outside the box thinkers and doers, they didn’t follow the herd. At ATT those people would be some L2 SME spinning their wheels going nowhere, that’s how Bezos and Gates started btw. Left their jobs after never advancing in a career beyond basic office workers.

Southfield MI. New hub. They're pouring money into our campus and adding headcount off the street.

Just wait until follow the application is implemented at T (already in the works). Better hope your boss and team is in the city you're already in, or you'll likely be out of a job. If you're lucky, you'll get reassigned to another app, but I can't imagine T is competent enough to pull that off without sc--w-ing the pooch somewhere. Good times are coming!

I have to agree with that. RTO is really about that. Let the ideas bloom!
