Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Is it worth applying internally?

With some of the managers and supervisors getting laid off and their teams having to shift around to new ones is it worth it to switch to a different team or even apply internally? I don’t meant to sound tone deaf but if I get laid off I want as much money as possible for severance and possibly bump the amount I would get in unemployment. I think there is maybe three departments that would get the very last cut for Navi if they get cut at all since it’s calling providers and members and talking to them daily/ directly.
But I’m
So exhausted at this point I’ve had five different supervisors and managers within the last 4 years due to layoffs it’s exhausting and we’re suppose to switch to a new manager by the end of Feb.
I’ve been looking at internal
Jobs and applying to only UHC and avoiding any Optum
Jobs it’s about as much luck as applying outside to other organizations honestly everyone says they’re hiring but no one gets a call back at least when I apply internally I get to the interview process before being told the position is no longer available.
Getting out is the goal but until then I want my best chances of staying and getting some small pay raise

Yes it is. In order to be safe, switch to UHC/G if possible. There are teams who have never experienced layoffs before there.

A lot of people that moved into home health originally worked in different areas and transferred over (worked out so well for us. Sigh). The way to do that was to submit an application for an internal position, just like all the RIF people are trying to do right now. So in normal circumstances you can apply internally and get a new position.

If it seems like a job isn’t available right now that’s posted, it’s just that there are hundreds of us applying for the same job. So the odds are against us when we see a position open.

Realistically I don’t think anybody laid off should be holding their breath for an internal position right now. Keep applying for external positions in addition to any internal ones that you are seeing.

What have you heard regarding preservice so far? I’m making preparations now. Wondering how soon the next wave of RIF will be. They already RIFd CTMs, PSCs and if not mistaken a director.

from my experience they post those jobs while offering the positions internally to people they have already told have the position and they only list them publicly at all because they have to. they rarely ever have intentions of hiring people in other parts of the company or on the streets for any position posted

Are only CSOCs restructuring or is there anything you’re aware of?

My manager is actually very kind to me and mentioned me moving teams with him. He isn’t part of the toxic culture and expressed he hates it himself he broke the news to us that there would be restructuring due to layoffs and the times the various meetings where taking place and if we made connections to people on other teams we can go into an extra break and speak with them if we wanted their phone number or socials before they logged off or set their OOO message to keep in touch and set a meeting for about 20 minutes to let us vent. My team is getting broken up three ways to different supervisors/ managers ( we all work different roles but we’re all placed under him a year ago) and I think Im one of the five he asked if we would want to stay with him he would try to get us trained and moved over to the team he will be taking over ( he still doesn’t know which department they want him to move to) . He doesn’t know why they’re breaking up and moving around teams that have established managers and supervisors but did say it would happen sometime in early March if not February I have looked into jobs outside of UHG as a whole but it honestly feels like it’s better to keep a job at a this company than it is to quit and hope to get hired elsewhere since there are too many horror stories of the job market right now. The moment I find a job that pays better and isn’t part of UHG I will leave but until then I’m just trying to pay my bills and stay employed.

If you think a 0.1% maybe-chance is worth it, yes go for it. In the past it was an opportunity to move up. However, in the last year, unless you speak Hindi, Telugu or another Indian language you have very little chance of getting interviewed let alone an offer. Also, why would you want to stick around in this toxic culture?

I've been trying to apply internally for over a year now. Sometimes I'll even make it kind of far into the interview process only to be told that I didn't get the job or the person who was previously in that role decided to come back to that role. I'm thinking about starting to apply externally soon. I actually really like my current position but there's no stability when they're even laying off clinical staff.

Everybody has to do what's best for them. Me? I don't have another person's income to fall back on. I don't have the luxury of taking off a year to recuperate or travel, or decide my next moves, or to spend applying to other dead end work. The world is too chaotic out there right now and I'm focused on my bag. I apply internally, hope I can move up a pay grade or two at least, and job hunt on the side. This company will always treat you line a number. It's OK to treat them like a dollar sign.
