Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Compensation and work-life balance

Low pay combined with work-life imbalance and rigid RTO mandates creates a toxic mix that erodes employee satisfaction and loyalty. Employers need to balance these factors thoughtfully, recognizing that employees now expect not just fair pay but also a workplace that respects their time, autonomy, and well-being. A salary of $100,000, once considered a benchmark for financial comfort, is increasingly insufficient to meet today’s cost of living standards in many areas, particularly in urban and suburban settings.

@jv+1jgsfjad3 TSE1? Hopefully job market opens up and you should apply for a new req, since that's the only way to get a big raise internally.

What kind of chatGPT bullsh-t is this? Company morale here died like 2 years ago. Now they are puppeting the corpse of it while a handful of koolaid drinkers tap dance for gift cards. This place su-ks.

There is no such thing as work-life balance. Made up term to keep HR types busy while they aren't recruiting or overseeing terminations. It's the employee's role to draw the line when/if needed.

The employer is not in business to take care of us. They are only obligated to take care of the shareholders. Take care of yourself and do what's right for you.

100k doesn't go as far as it used to. I can tell you for one that car insurance rates in Massachusetts have skyrocketed, doubling in price. Add in high prices at the pump, groceries and other necessities and 100k doesn't have the buying power it used to.

If you can't make a $100k salary work you need to reexamine your priorities, spending habits, and lifestyle choices. You're doing something wrong.

I guess it all depends on perspective and position in the company. I'm only getting $65k, but am meeting the needs of my wife (who doesn't work) and two kids and am on track to pay off my house 15 years early. At 5pm when my shift ends anything I am actively working on (rarely happens) gets picked up by the next shift. Sure I'd like more money, who wouldn't. But to say my pay doesn't meet cost of living is a bit of a stretch.
